The last time my 73 Satellite was on the road, I had a minor issue with wind noise when the pass side window was partially down.

It sounded like air moving over a fan, causing it to spin, and the fan had a bad bearing.
You know the sound.
Roll the window all the way up or down and it went away.

Yesterday it started again, only much worse.
About 35 MPH it starts whistling, and about 45 it starts the bad bearing whine on top of the whistle.

Last night I removed the blower motor fan and covered the hole with a block off plate I used for painting the cowl.

The noise is still there but the bad bearing sound is mostly subdued.
It even still does it regardless of pass window position, but it is quieter if it's all the way up.

WTF is going on? Anyone else deal with this?

It's starting to drive me crazy-er.

Rust hole in the cowl vent chamber? Look around through the grille at the base of the windshield and see if you have any rust holes in it. A cheap borescope camera used with your cell phone can give you a much better view of the hard to reach areas.

A couple of things I would check aside from what 68gtxman mentioned. First have you inspected the door seals on the passenger side, check for loose seal, especially around the bottom of the door and the front of the door, if you have loose rubber seal there, it can vibrate making weird noises. Second, if that is good check the radio antenna wire grommet that is located behind the kick panel, if its perished or has come out, that can cause wind noise as well. The other thing you can check is the seal that goes around the AC and heater pipes. Its behind the heater box, but from the engine bay, you should be able to tell if its there or has degraded to the point its not sealing anymore. Additionally, your heater box has an air door to the cowl and it could have a leak if the foam is gone causing it to pull air in through there as well or if the seal around it is bad and it doesn't mate up to the cowl opening could also cause air noise.

I think we may have a winner.

I suspected something in the heater-A/C box.

I poked around looking for that vent door and some foam crumbles came out.

The door was almost closed, so I pushed it up as far as it could go and shoved part of a cardboard box up in there to keep it from moving too far.

I went on a run around the neighborhood and to the shop. Got to about 55 and no noise.

Now to see what to do about that seal without having to take that dang box out and apart.

When I got the car the A/C worked but the condensate dripped from the box half seal.
That was a royal pain to stop.

With foam falling out, sounds like that box needs a complete rebuild. Its not difficult to with a kit from Detroit Muscle Technology.

Great solutions to your questions. I replaced my foam seals and black foam materials with modern stuff back in 2003 on all the A/C doors and ducts. which was bad then, they just turned to dust!
