Does it really matter if its a clone?

I purchased my car with GTX emblems on it. It was listed as a GTX clone with a 70's 440. Works fine for me and I'm fine telling people that comment on it that it's technically a satellite.

Thank you for proving my point.

Rebadging is not a cosmetic personal choice like wheels and paint.

Rebadging is done simply because you want people to think you own something you do not. You’d rather have the perception you own a RR than a Satellite

And how did you come to this conclusion? Here's a pic of my wife's car. It was purchased as a nice driver quality matching number 340 4 speed Rallye. We didn't like the color, the grille, the small 14' ralley wheels, the vinyl top. So we changed it. Yes it's badged as an R/T. Oh sacrilege its a 73. Our reason? We like it. The license Plate? It reads "FAKE RT". Does that sounds like my R/T badging isn't personal choice? It must also be worthless. That"s why we turned down $50K for it this summer. There are some really nice cars that aren't real. But I'd never know cause I never check VIN's.

I'm building a '70 Coronet into a '70 Bee COPY. Why? Because greedy people snapped up all of the originals so that they could be restored to better then new condition and stored away in collections. Never to be seen on the street again. The value of these is now such that it's too risky to drive an original.
I would GLADLY build an original Bee. Am I fooling anybody? Nope. Do I want to fool anybody? Nope. I just want to actually DRIVE a 'Bee on the street again. Don't like clones, "tribute" or copy cars? Keep walking, nothing to see here.

Because its the owners choice of how they like to look at their personal car. They could care less what someone else thinks. It's their car. Why would you care if their personal car was badged the way they like it? Are you the proper build police? Do you check each VIN to make sure?

Again, thanks for proving my point.

Rebadging is done as a self centered act to alter reality to appease the ego of the owner and create a perception in your mind and other that you own something you don’t.

If, as the op mentions, there is NO DIFFERENCE between a Satellite and a RR except for two small decals or an emblem, then why is it so important to have them? Why include them at all?

Do you normally respond so emotionally and vigorously to people with opposing opinions?

You like the idea of fooling people. I don’t. Who cares? It won’t change my Christmas.

Sounds similar to the transgender argument. Hmmmm, are clone cars really transgendered?

I love the look and appearance of the R/T badge, the big ones, so much so that I have one on my Ford Taurus. because , well , my ego got the best of me...

By the logic in this thread, I should have cut up an original Superbird lol.

There are some pretty opinionated comments on this subject and quite touchy for a few .
I suspect when someone makes a clone and misrepresents the car then it becomes an issue .
Some of the original cars I also would like are just too much money to spend if your going to beat on it especially if it's number matched low miles etc and to just have it in the garage to drool over and not drive that's a bummer .
I actually didn't buy a specific car because I thought 11555 miles all original i love it but would feel guilty and scared as crap to let it go in hopes it didn't brake .

Clones are clones are clones that's it if it's your car do what you want .

Reread your statements. Do you truly believe them? Our car is exactly that, our car done the way we like it. Enjoy looking at VINs the rest of your days. Me, I'll be enjoying the hobby.

Who am I fooling? I own exactly what I own.

What I the OP mentioned is that the only difference between a satellite like mine and a road runner of the same year after all the mods done to it, is only the badges and hood really...

I bought it that way though, and my father built it that way... To me, it IS a Road Runner. But, of course It was made to look that way because my Dad thought it was cool. Which I agree, it is. I don't like extra chrome, and the RR hood is sweet!

After reading some people's responses, I really have no issue with the name Satellite, It sounds sort of cool actually. Since I was born in 1983, I have no direct association or personal experience with the original car scene going on in the late 60's early 70's, although they are my favorite Mopars...

Since my Dad built it that way, I'll probably keep it that way, although if the badges are interchangeable, I may consider putting the word Satellite in place of RR? if not, whatever, its COOL either way to me :)

When is a fake not a fake. Buyer beware. When people start getting drug into court for deception will it matter then? I have little respect for liers and vins don't lie. People lie. Take it from there.

Other issues aside, I only know of one part which is unique to car.
It's small and it's the only part I know of that is not replaceable.
If a car doesn't have that, and the car has been changed to resemble something other than what it was, it's a simulation.
And, of course, all cars are "only original once".
And in 50 years it probably won't matter to you anyway.

IMO it boils down to two types, the type who spent the money and bought the "real deal" and the type who didn't and in most cases when/if the car gets sold the price will reflect whether it's the "real deal". That said, I owned a Satellite Sebring Plus at one time, a 383 In-Violet with white interior 4 speed car. I could've added a RR hood and said it's a RR clone, I also could've added a RR hood and said I had a SSP and added the RR hood. Like many have said in this post, calling it a clone or whatever is only about them wanting the status of having a car they don't have. There are plenty or real RR's, RT's, SuperBee's and such out there, we don't need tribute, clones or whatever. Be original, build the car with the Hipo engine, the extra trim, maybe add the Roadrunner head or RT emblem, but don't call it a RR or RT cause it's not. Call it a Satellite you added the RR head cause you thought it was cool looking. At the end of the day a person is gonna like your car cause it's a nice looking car, not cause it's a Roadrunner or a Satellite.
