    what don't you agree with?
    the definition of a clone?
you even refer to it with a different name yourself
    its a tribute,modified,hot rod
but if it isn't a exact copy of a original it is not a clone.
dolly the sheep didn't have monkey ears..lol
clone is a very misused word.

a clone to me has me fooled until i look at the vin
most of them i don't have to look at the vin to know what it is..
i really don't care what someone else does
i just laugh at the misused labels that are put on stuff
clone, barn find or whatever the trendy new catch word or phrase of the week is

Agree with misuse of "clone." I see cars for sale all the time that claim to be clones yet are actually restomods or hot rods.

Just like everyone is saying, doesn't matter as long as you don't try to pass it off as the real thing. Me personally.. when I build my daughters 71 Sattelite it will have a RR hood and a few other little things that a Sattelite wouldn't have put it won't have a single RR badge or graphic anywhere on it.

I really think misrepresenting cars like Sattelites doesn't allow people to see just how cool they are but instead they just think they'r all RR's.

I don't like original cars. I run mine hard and have fun with it like
I did in the 60's and 70's. Investors took the fun out of being able to afford
A Mopar Muscle car. I would rather go with a Satellite than a GTX/RR.
          But I can't really talk. I have a 68 GTX, originally a white, outside2 (2).jpg 440, 4 speed, AC car.
I kinda like what I have done to it!

Who said it has to be and "exact copy". Exact to what end? Date matched temp sensors ect. Or just emblems, hood, etc? Nobody says a clone (or put your name for it here) has to be exact. Are all "real" cars stock? No way. The posters "GTX" above is a perfect example. Car has plenty of mods. Has the GTX look the owner desires. He enjoys it. If someone had chose to make one look stock, good for them going that direction as well. If people built to enjoy rather than what somebody else thought we would have a lot of people enjoying there rides. Tell me when does it make a difference if it's original? When someone points out what they think is incorrect? What its perceived to be worth at time of sale? Think that originals are always worth more? I think not.

                  Yes, it matters.

                  Natural blonde or bottle blonde?

Cloning, or more accurately, rebadging, is a way to pretend you own something you don’t. It’s a form of rationalization. People want the illusion and perception of owning a Road Runner without the effort or money to buy a real one.

If “it doesn’t matter” then leave the badging alone. Drive a Satellite.

Wrong again. Putting a badge on it means they want it to look a certain way. I don't like everyone's choice of wheels, paint colors, valve covers etc. But the owners choice of how THEY want it to look. You know which people are really worried about it? Those who have original stuff that think theirs is better than everyone else's because they say so. My favorite is a rust bucket, mig welded restoration with 90% AMD parts that is "real" vs the the guy with an original metal 383 4 brl Belvedere that is badged to look like a RR. Really?

It only matters to those who own the real thing, but not all of them.
Build what you want, how you want, when you want.
If everyone could afford the high dollar restos, we would all have the same cars. Nobody would own anything but an "RT" for example. This is where the hobby has become a long cock competition. And those who own the RT's are pissy that somebody else likes the look even though they can't afford to pay the premium (initial investment).
                      Flame away, I don't care. I have a road runner......but it's no good because it only has a 383. :)

I have r/t badging on my 67 coronet. It really doesn't matter- when someone asks about it at the gas station or where ever, they call it a charger most of the time anyway.

Thank you for proving my point.

Rebadging is not a cosmetic personal choice like wheels and paint.

Rebadging is done simply because you want people to think you own something you do not. You’d rather have the perception you own a RR than a Satellite.

If, as the op stated, there is no difference in the underlying body or drive train options, then why change the nameplate?

It’s your car, it’s your money, do what you want to with it. Personally if I wanted to buy one, I’d rather have a nice Belvedere, Satellite, or Coronet than a clone, but I wouldn’t turn one down if it was done right and the price reflected it. Just my opinion.

Because its the owners choice of how they like to look at their personal car. They could care less what someone else thinks. It's their car. Why would you care if their personal car was badged the way they like it? Are you the proper build police? Do you check each VIN to make sure?

I dont understand why it is such a shame to own a Coronet or a Satellite or even a lowly stripped down Belvedere. I understand the "muscle" version gets a little more press but why not make your base model into a wolf in sheeps clothing. I personally love all of them and have examples of all the b body models (except the elusive GTX) from the late 60s. I have no reservations calling them what they are. They are all unique and i could never bring myself to call them something different than what they are.
Back in high school i was proud as a peacock to own a 69 Coronet 440. I put a 440 in it and scored a complete Ramcharger hood setup for it. I never once thought of calling it an RT clone.

                                Your car...do what you like.

Why doesn't someone "clone" an RT into a Coronet 440?

It really only matters to you . Unless you decide to sell it and claim it's the real thing .

I’ll bet the owner of this GTX cried more because it was “real”?

So which is it? A Satellite or a RR?????

                                        IMG_4595.JPG

Yeah, it's a Satellite. The previous owner removed all the chrome trim and badging when he repainted the car. Personally, I like it better without the trim too. I've owned 2 other 70 Satty droptops and a 70 RR. The "look" of a RR without the trim and with the bulge hood is much nicer, IMO, but otherwise the car looks the same. Drivetrain is a different story. The 318 in the Satty is fine for cruising. OK, I can't kick it down and get pinned to the seat like in my RR (which was ONLY a 383), but that's something that can be upgraded at any time. If the car above was a RR, it would have cost me at least double the price if not more. I'm happy as a pig in shit that I found the Satty and sold my RR.
Frankly, I think having a Satellite is more unique at this stage of the game. Not many people have heard of them, whereas after F&F movies, the Roadrunner has become more notorious. If I found a bulge hood, would I swap it out? YES, because I LIKE the look better. Would I ever call it a RR? Nope, it's a Satellite. Happy to explain to the uninitiated the relationship between the Satty, RR and GTX. But my ego is fine JUST owning a 1970 Satellite convertible in B5 with a white top and white interior in really nice shape !!!!!!
