Be careful purchasing items from Performance Online. I purchased a Brake Booster kit and was very clear as the vehicle I had and that it had power brakes. I asked them specifically if their kit would work with an original Power Brake car, because many of the other vendors stated their kits would not. They assured me everything would be OK and it would work fine.

Well I received the kit and the it will not work. Performance Online said they would refund my purchase but I have to pay the shipping. It will only be around $40, but in my opinion I did nothing wrong and should not have to pay the return shipping.

So be careful.

If you paid by credit card, dispute the charges, let Performance Online worry about getting it back to them.

I had the exact same thing happened to me when I was looking for a kit for my car. Did some research and found a kit that I liked (Not this company). Called their tech department and they said it would work and didn't metion nothing about having to be a factory manual car in the website. Ordered it through Summit Racing. Found out once I opened it up that it wouldn't work so I called summit back. Had to argue with them that it wasn't my fault and that I shouldn't have to pay $60 for shipping it back.

Based on what you said there is no excuse to mislead a customer....all in the hopes the receiver will modify things to get it to work versus the hassle of sending it back....I would make them eat the shipping cost as well...

Sorry about bumping old threads but I just need to ask around. Saw your post from a year ago...

I ordered my booster kit on the 21st of January. No update on the tracking, still "awaiting package" on USPS page. Tried mailing them five times without any reply (I'm in Sweden and my company don't really like international calls on their cell phones) Called them last night and asked what the hell and they said that they were going to check with USPS and email me back. Still nothing.
If this doesn't change I'll call Amex and dispute the charge.

I agree 100%. I've had some disputes with some companies over the years and I always use my Visa card! It's rare, but I've had to go the 'dispute' route thru the C/C company a few times in the last 20 years including a $2k furniture order that came damaged. As an example, this company wanted to 'repair' it......I wanted a 'new' piece. Visa (not an advertisement!) took care of it for me & refunded me my money. Best part is, the company never requested I return the furniture!

This is the kind of thing that I was writing about in another thread in general discussion Indy swap meet and dealing with Parts Vendors. I believe that we should ask that there be a specific forum for sharing quality vendors and those that want to act like they are entitled to our hard earned dollars .
I for one would love to be able to know if the vendors that want already absorbnant prices for their products appreciate that we choose to do business with them.
Sadly, even we that have collected pieces and parts over time from our hobby have fallen in to the trap of believing that it is a good idea to try to take advantage of folks who are looking for parts especially stock parts, for their cars. And know that I am not talking about items that there were 10 or even a hundred of but things like a set of stock valve covers for $75-100., timing covers for $50. etc. Saw a set of wheels that the seller said was off of a 70 Hemi Challenger or Cuda, steel wheels and was wanting a $1000. I could be wrong here but even if they were on that particular car, were we to believe that the wheels were made and installed only on that car. Sometimes it hate nothing more than the insult to our intelligence.
I think we should try to preserve the sport as best we can. If anyone is stupid enough to believe that people will have and be willing to spend any thing just to say they own a classic anything need only look at Harley Davidson's great rise and fall. In the 90's everybody wanted a Harley, more specifically the lifestyle and harleys skyrocketed. People were paying thousands over MSRP and aftermarket vendors came out of the wood work. Knock offs were selling for crazy money. All of the sudden, 9/11 happened the economy slumped , AND, people learned that owning harleys were expensive and decided to spend their money on other things. Couple that with a new generation and harleys can be bought all day long for another fraction of the cost. We are not far behind.

Great commentary! Appreciate you sharing too. We gotta remain very observant of 'who' is out there, for sure! This hobby is certainly not as affordable as it was 20-30 years ago & definitely is WAY to precious to NOT be around in another 20-30 years, too. I just hope everything I pass on to my two sons continues to be cherished by them in their generation as it has been in ours'. I turn 70 this year and know I have to pass the 'Paton' soon. Let's all hope & pray for the best!
