Rear window Chrome and Sail molding

How do you remove the rear window chrome trim and the sail trim pieces from 67 Coronet? I managed to remove the windshield chrome but can't get the rear window trim to release from the clips. Is there a special tool or trick to this?

I used one of these to release the clips.

It's possible that if your rear glass has been out before, they may have run urethane sealer around the channel before reinstalling the trim. The guy who replaced my rear glass did this on mine I was unhappy to see when I picked it up. Didn't know much I could do about it at that point so I went ahead and installed the trim. It will be fun the next time it has to come off. I will probably take a heat gun and apply some heat under the trim in an effort to soften it.

The C-pillar chrome strip is secured by studs that are nutted on the inside. The inside rear window trip needs to be removed and the headliner loosened around the lower area of the pillar to get access to the trim nuts.
 
Thanks. I have a trim removal kit but not the tool your showing. I did a search but didn't find any useful information except that sometimes the stainless trim around the window is a PITA to remove without damaging it. I was hoping not to have to tinker with the headliner but suspected that I may have to! Thanks again.
 
Easy to damage, so don't get excited and take your time.. Same idea as your ws but they always seemed more difficult... As said above, maybe glued in.. Take a putty knife and lift up GENTLY and see if you can tell if there is caulking holding them.
Backin the day we used a long flat blade ( very small tip) screwdriver to release the back moldings... You could also lift the chrome with a putty knife ( again not too far and don't bend it) to be able to see the clips and then take a removal tool to unclip them....
 
There are other type window clip release tools available - that's the one I'm most familiar with. The tool has to reach past the weatherstriping and catch the clip and pull it back slightly to release it from the window trim. But if you have the front out you have probably seen what you're dealing with.

Correct, and you have to pry ( way to strong a word for this) up on the chrome as you hold the clip with your clip tool.... Careful, it bends really easily

The sail trim pieces have 2 nuts on the inside
 
Thanks everyone. I'll get at the window trim tomorrow morning and as for the sail trim pieces, that will wait. I wanted to remove the chrome around the rear window and windshield first to assess the condition of the metal in preparation for restoration. I will create a thread in the restoration forum to document the progress.

My window trim was on since the day my car was born wasn’t to bad to pull off all my lower corners had a pretty good amount of rust i had to cut out and repair

No weepholes for the water to escape... Just sits and rusts....
 
Yep - mine had some rust in the corners - particularly on the pass side. I chipped and ground it down to solid metal and couldn't find any sign of breakthrough so I coated it with POR15 since I wasn't planning to get into body and paint work at that time.

Got the trim off and after scraping and cleaning out rust in the lower corners, I have a small hole in the drivers side. I will post pics in the restoration forum.

I had holes in all 4 corners wasnt to big of a pain to fix just make sure you get all the rust out and check the underside my biggest rust spots on my 66 was the window corners the ends of the drip rails and the outer sail panel trim took a bit of work but i got it all fixed

Just ran water along the bottom of the rear window and discovered a leak in the passenger side lower corner. I taped off both sides and blasted the area with glass beads to remove the rust and clean the area. You can see where the problem is and not too hard to fix.
