Has anyone made Hedman 78030 headers fit in a 64 b body with a 383 pushbutton & mini starter? I tried searching a lot of mopar forums, but couldn't find much. Thanks.

Installed them on my 64 Sport Fury, 727 cable floor shift (now a 4 speed)..had to do a little “dinging”for the mini starter.

I have a 451 (stroked 400 same physical size as the 383).

My research prior to purchase showed them one of the least problematic headers to install. I did have them ceramic coated.

X2.....you will need to do some dinging.

Had them on the 440 in my '64 Polara. Had to ding them in a few places to get the clearance I wanted but not a big deal. Pulled them off and will have them ceramic coated but for now I'm running stock manifolds for break-in.

Thanks for the info & I can get a set really cheap, but I didn't realize they're 1 3/4" until after I posted the question. We're stroking my 383 to 438 so I'm wondering if 1 7/8" would be much better. It'll be a fairly hot street build with ported 915's, Eddy airgap & 800 Thunder carb and a good solid lifter cam & 3.55 SG, so hope its close to 500 hp. I know the smaller primaries will work, but think 1 7/8" would be best? 2" is too large & if so, I think TTI may be the only ones who makes headers in that size.

Your motor is awesome looking & sure wish mine was a 4 speed! I'm putting chrome valve covers & will also need to ceramic coat these Hedmans if I get them. Might just be best to get Doug or TTI's since they're thicker & won't have to ding them. Yours & the Sport Fury sure makes me want to sell mine & find a 4 speed (like I sold a real 426 4 speed Belvedere 2 yrs ago).

I ran the Hedmans for a few weeks in my 63. Did not like it at all. Hard to install, To much heat everywhere . Pain in the *** ! So I installed as set of BB HP mani's and all the problems went away. FYI I am running TTI duel X pipe exhaust with Eletc. cutouts. I just love the sound. All this until I install my 426 M/W in a few months !! Aloha, C

Really nice looking 440. I had a set of 69 HP manifolds, but think I'll get ceramic coated TTI or Dougs.

These are 1-3/4 Hedman on my old 440. Don't remember the part number but they fit fine and worked good for me. I ran them from 2006 until 2011 when I built my stroker and then I went with 2" TTI's. But I did not ding these at all and they never leaked that I can remember. They worked fine for a low buck header that I needed at the time. This is the only pic I can find of them right now. Ron

Thanks for the info & I know they fit on RB's better than low decks & I'm also trying to decide if I'll change the power steering to a manual box I have or get a fast ratio 16:1 manual box. I think it makes a difference in header clearance. SO, I might end up getting these cheap Hedmans just to see if they'll fit either steering box.

hedman 2" race headers converted to street application.(welded exhaust flange onto collector)..after installing 3 piece headers with slip on collectors,u will never want to install 1 piece units again.

I have power steering...there was no clearance issues there.

They will not fit mini starters. Their design is too wide. Use a stock starter and put it in with the header loose and you'll be off and running

Not sure @ other guy but I used a mini starter with my hedmans . worked just fine in my 63 Ply. . but all good my friend.

My Headmans fit the mini starter fine. Had about a half inch clearance out of the box. I wanted a little more so I dinged the pipe a little in that area. Wound up with almost an inch clearance. No problem.

Believe me, the mini starter I have would not fit with these Hedman headers. A stock (short) starter went right in. Anyone want to buy a new mini starter?
