Hey Guys, If I have the windshield out and have access to the upper dash to remove how hard is it to install a dash wiring harness? My wires are real bad and I have a short somewhere so I'm thinking of just replacing the whole thing including the engine harness. How do you tell what goes where?

Great idea replacing the harness. Change the engine side while you are at it to. Leave the windshield in the car, everything can be done from underneath. I would remove your seats though to make your job a whole lot easier. The M&H harness' are pretty much an exact copy of the factory ones. Pick up a 69 service manual or download the free version from mymopar so you can track the wires if you run into a snag.

Remove the front seats. Remove the bolts behind the front glass and loosen the bolts behind the kick panels and rotate the dash down and put something under it to hold it steady. Lay the new harness next to the old one and then unplug and plug each connector.

I agree remove seats and leave dash in. I just did my Bee. Mark all wires and you can look at the old harness when installing the new one. M&H harness will have extra wires so do panic.

I have a crack in my windshield so I need to have it removed anyway, I just thought it would make it a lot easier. Thanks!

Before doing anything...dis-connect the battery.
Under the dash, many of the wire connections are to the backside of the instrument panel. Would be easier, if you loosened it, to get to those connections, besides easier to see.
Under the hood, look at the firewall block...normally there's three separate 'harnesses' that go to it. Headlight harness, engine harness, and the third ? Don't remember...mine only has two.
Good wiring diagrams! You'll learn what goes where, and better off knowing.

Be complete with it, to make it trouble free, and done with it. Good luck!!

Then you can tip the dash frame down like mentioned above. Easy access to most everything then. BUT, you will have to remove the steering column and floor shifter (if you have one) to do that. Might be more than you want to get into right now as it seems these old cars are new to you?

Take LOTS of PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, mopars are new to me. I just got finished removing the steering column twice, I'm not doing that again! What a pain it was! Thanks for the info!

Just to make things clear.
Is it hard to do?? Only as hard as you make it! Is it easy...no. Then ask yourself, is it worth it, and how much it would cost to pay someone else to do it...a bunch. Will YOU learn a damn thing, letting someone else do it??

#1 rule, is make it easy on yourself. Look, learn, and don't get in a hurry. Don't know what else to tell ya. Got two hands...use 'em. One step at a time. Under the dash is a royal pain, but needs to be done...carefully.

I agree, I will be taking my time. It has to be done, whoever had it before me really hacked it up. I don't want to take the chance of having a fire!

^^^Get a FSM or a schematic as well if you don't have it already. Miller has some good advice. No one can look down at you for at least trying to do it. Just "baby steps", one thing at a time

Yes, I have a wiring diagram from classic industries.

Have you been here? I don't know what Classic is selling these days but I did also get a colored coded wiring diagram for my car and was just like the dash. Of course, there was a few wires here and there that they couldn't have every option, but it wasn't bad. Least you have something to go by.

I think you are referring to Classic Car Wiring? https://www.classiccarwiring.com
I have a couple of their color laminates. They are nice, but are missing a couple of things that you need the fsm for.

Yeah the M&H harnesses are great, I redid almost my entire Coronet with them. And for reference both the Classic Car Wiring laminated charts and the FSM are invaluable. One gotcha is that there are several secondary "mini-harnesses" that you might have to buy separately; the tach harness and the courtesy light harness were two I can remember on my car.

Wiring diagrams...go to the MyMopar website...
Free downloads, both the wiring diagrams, and complete service manuals...maybe even parts manual, if needed.
