Inconsiderate, ungrateful, or just plain rude

wife tells me that no one likes to ask me for help (although I still got to "Help" her sister haul their stuff to their storage when they had to move, and her husband was drunk and sttod there and watched me.) And I asked why do you think that is? I'm the one with the truck, so I'm top of the list. But whenever I need help they are all "busy"

My friend borrowed a router from his father in law, and somehow the cardboard box that the router came in got lost while we were doing the job! Boy was he pissed off when it came back without the box! We bought a nice toolbox to put it in,and gave him a $35 router bit,and he was still pissed about the box. He keeps everything exactly as it was when he got it.

Why is it that all of us that like to use our hands or have / like or use tools, are always in the top of the list to "help" a relative or a friend, are everybody so useless / lazy not to move a finger, even less an arm, and of course your wife telling you "can you please go help them" :BangHead: and there you go to "help" them.:nutkick:

We all have stories like this but what gets me is these ignorant people think they are normal and we are the ****-ups. Doesn't make sense. How they justify it is bizarre.

unless.........they are right.........and we are the fowl ups.

Took me a long time but I got tired of being 'used' by so many family members. My truck, my back and on and on. When I finally said my back can't move anymore furniture, 'they' wanted to borrow my truck. One reason my 95 Dakota has so many dings on it is because it moved so much stuff over the years and my wife taking it to 'help' when I couldn't/wouldn't anymore. My diesel NEVER was loaned to anyone and it still looks pretty decent for being a 97!

Hey all
My wife and I live on a good sized acreage. As anyone that lives on a property like this knows they require lots of maintenance and that requires hired work or owning the equipment to maintain. I am thee later of the two.
This story or rant involves my yard vacuum but has been other equipment that I own.
I have a JD mower with a lawn vacuum that makes raking a thing of the past. I have always took care of my mother in laws yard. She passed early this year and my sister in law purchased her house. Well my wife ( wanting constant approval ) volunteered my vacuum and my time. Not a huge deal but I know what my wife is wanting to achieve by doing this and me knowing she is not going to get it, I went along with it. Two hours of me blowing the leaves from bushes and under the deck with my wife running the mower we finish and the yard looks great. To me that was the end of it, but about 830 the wife is pretty quiet and I ask whats bugging her and she says I cant believe that my sister has not called and thanked us for doing her yard. I bit my tongue but I was not expecting a thank you or even an acknowledgement because she has never thanked us for anything we had done in the past. Gutter cleaning, power washing her house and decks, or the countless times we included her on our nights out after her husband died. None of this was done expecting a reward or anything because family takes care of family but how hard is it to say thank you.
I think from now on my equipment and my time is for people that appreciate it. I just feel really bad for my wife she takes this stuff really bad.

There seems to be a dynamic between your wife and her sister.
Who knows why your sister in law can't say "thank you"?
Perhaps she feels guilty for taking help after the death of a husband and saying thank you would only add to that guilt.
Your wife must know her sister well enough to know what to expect.
You seem to know your wife.
I can't say what is driving this relationship between the sisters, but you are wise for trying to keep peace by cooperating with the one you have to live with.
Feel good that you have to means and ability to help a family member.
And give thanks for that.
The only thing I can add is.....

I take care of the MIL's property for her and mow the older neighbor ladies when I do...Both are happy to have someone else to do it since they aren't able...Both lots take about 2 hours to mow...usually every 7-10 days...Over the summer the wife's brother came home for about 3 days and thought he should mow the grass while he was there...(This guy is a union electrician so he knows everything about anything)

It was hot that week and I guess he couldn't mow everything because he got tired...Didn't mow the neighbors at all...half ***'d mowed the MIL's and then put the mower away without washing it out underneath...

I was pissed but not surprised...He earned the nickname "shitbird" from me about 8 years ago because of the way he half-***'s everything he does...I had the wife call him out on not washing out the mower and he said "Well the grass was dry"...I'm thinking I should rename him "Shitbird Liar"...

He comes in town 2-3 times a year for anywhere from 3-10 days and ends up doing something at his moms...3 months later when he's gone I'm out there fixing it...
