Things are about to get strange

Sorry you California guys are misinformed! We are turning corn into gas as we speak by the trainload. .you will never see a modern piece of farm equipment run on a dumb battery or a big rig for that matter. . .the country would starve. Trump 2020 by the way
Large corporations may have a different vision. John Deere already was testing a battery powered tractor https://electrek.co/2016/12/05/john-deere-electric-tractor-prototype/ before someone woke up and realized that farm tractors don't really need a long range - they're tied to a farm. So now they're going in a different direction...electric tractors that travel with a kilometer of cord that keeps them plugged in. https://www.producer.com/2019/02/deeres-new-electric-tractor-tosses-the-battery/

As for big rigs, Tesla has 2,000 pre orders for it's electric semi, and is already using them in-house for its own delivery service. https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech...c-big-rig-truck-rolls-into-reality/873162001/ Cummins is working on their own big rig https://www.engadget.com/2017/08/29/cummins-electric-semi-truck/ and they're not alone, as this Freightliner shows: https://carbuzz.com/news/someone-s-beaten-tesla-to-the-electric-big-rig-punch
Kenworth, DAF, Toyota, BYD company, Nikola, Volkswagen and half a dozen other companies around the world are all working on electric big rigs.

electric cars are a scam
zero sum change to the environment/climate or whatever scam you want to call it.
you still have to have coal fired plants to make the power to charge it
and the battery needs to be made where there is no/lax environmental laws (like China)
the only think they do is create the illusion that you are doing something good.

I hope, you’re right. Don’t look good though. Lol ! I think we all love combustion engines. I’m scared, lol !

I don't think I've ever seen a coal fired power plant. There aren't any at all in my province.

Exactly, symbolism over substance what a bunch of sheeple we are

They are all coal fired where I’m from. Most in the U..S. are. I live and work in and around coal country.

the power plants will be petroleum powered because they want to do away with all nuclear here.

the whole electric thing is a scam to line the pockets of our corrupt leaders
most of those companies projects will die when they cost 2x
that of a petroleum version.
as long as gas is cheap and plentiful electric will never be able to compete
unless the battery tech catches up big time
and that day is still far away.
the idiots act like the day is here already because
they can't wait to line their pockets from suckers who believe and worship this ****.

No one that frequents this site. Drives, collects classic cars. Ever thought in their lifetime. They would see a day when their beloved favorite combustion engines would no longer run good as they once did. Based on petroleum gas drastically changing in their lifetime. Think about that, a lot is possible in our lifetime.
Your manner of writing is full of errors. It is hard to know what you mean.

Personally I think the electric cars have their place, especially in cities. As long as they are sold alongside gasoline engine vehicles and don't replace them completely I have no issue. What I'm more concerned about is self driving cars and the level of control they will have on our everyday lives. Imagine jumping in the car and entering your destination but because of congestion or some other reason it simply says "sorry, destination unavailable". Our freedom is slowly being eroded away. Cashless societies really concern me too - everything you buy could be tracked. Buy a lot of beer or junk food and expect your health insurance premium to increase. Robots taking our jobs, brain implants and the rest. We watch these futuristic dystopian movies and know the consequences of these changes but are still sleepwalking our way into them.

I only have to mention this and you guys will know what I'm talking about. Remember the Hype? They should re-introduce these so the video game playing, virtual reality headset wearing, skinny jean wearing, self centered pukes of the world can drive themselves right off a cliff while playing candy crush on their Iphones.

EDIT: I read this story after I posted it. There is some Irony to my above rant..
The new owner of the Segway corp actually did go off a cliff on one and he died.

Remember the Segway? Here’s Why It Never Quite Took Off
The invention that tried to replace walking

Story here. https://www.adweek.com/brand-marketing/remember-segway-heres-why-it-never-quite-took-168789/

the segway didn't "go over" because it was extremely expensive.

I still see city police using them in high pop urban areas.

Outdoor tour companies also still use them

if it can be bought with our tax dollars or written off.....

as for the doom and gloom...

what form of transportation made through history is currently illegal?

horses- nope

steam power- nope

cars built without seat belts- nope

cars built without crumple zones- nope

The city of Atlanta has sidewalks littered with e-scooters and e-bikes. They are now trying to reign them in because most of them end up in the middle of the sidewalk blocking pedestrian passage. Now I'm all for these things and getting around the city with them. I just don't believe combustion engines will stop being produced.. Well, I also never thought I would see K-Mart disappear hell for that matter Radio Shack.. So what the hell do I know.

There still is the huge environmental problem about what to do with all of the batteries once the battery's life is done. England is having this issue now, on what to do with all of the batteries that are stored at a special facility now. It is considered a very toxic site should something go wrong. At this time I am not that concerned about the world going to Electric vehicles. As posted above, $$$$ for the infrastructure is gonna be huge in any country.....

When Generac starts producing electric powered generators, that’s when I’ll start worrying about the demise of the internal combustion engine.

Electric has its place and I am sticking with my electric starter. :D

I don't think it will happen within the next 15 years but do think it could be a possibility in the distant future. Realistically, the world depends to much on oil and gas to make such a change. The US alone converting would not make a huge difference and it would have to be world wide. The only way that could happen is if we had a one world government. I wouldn't worry about it to much though, we are a hardy group with some amazing fabricators so if it does happen, we will just figure out a way to convert our cars to all electric.

I’m still waiting on my flying car!

I wouldn't get too concerned based on anything GM is doing. We had to bail them out with tax payer $$$$ in the recent past. At best, the number of electric cars would match a percentage of the power produced by solar, wind and hydro. Otherwise fossil fuel must be used.

BTW, it's sunny and 40º today, I'm going to take the RR for a ride and increase my carbon footprint. :)
