So I'm getting all the parts together for an Air Grabber hood on my '70 Roadrunner. I just got the Air Grabber switch (red handle) today. Just curious, I tried to move the switch while holding it and it doesn't seem to want to move. I don't dare push on it too much as I don't want to break it.

Does the switch usually take a bit of force for it to move or does it need to be hooked up to it's vacuum source in order to move the switch? Just trying to figure out if the new part is faulty or I don't understand since this is my first Air Grabber setup.

Thanks, Bill

Well this sounds really unfortunate. I ordered it from YearOne but looks like they've sourced it from Dale's Cuda shop. I might have to give them a call.

you'd think at least one of those monkeys would have at least made sure the thing worked before it went out the door

Was in there once, great guy; give him a call or text.

Looks like they're closed now but I will give them a call first thing in the morning. Yeah that dang thing, I mean I'm trying as hard as I can to move the switch and I feel like if I try any harder it'll just break that red handle right off.

FYI....everyone calls this device a switch, possibly because looks like a wall switch, BUT the device is really a two way vacuum valve. Vacuum goes from the valve to the 3 way 12v solenoid valve which dumps the applied vacuum, to allow the air grabber actuator to close when the engine shuts down. Just my opinion of course.

just to be clear, when I used the label "monkeys" , I was referring to year one not realizing they are using Dale's. check your parts guys! LOL

....lol, sure you did. No, but seriously.....YearOne is a good shop too.....but, I wish to god that they'd update their site.....looks like a message board from 94'.

Had it not been for Len who started Year One from his parents basement while he was in college, there would be a lots less of these old cars still running around today. I actually went to his parents home to purchase one of the early sets of RT bumble bee stripes that he was offering.

A number of vendors have come and gone, and Year One is no longer the force that they use to be. But their name recognition is still very strong and their return policy has kept them a viable alternative for many customers.

So just to clear things up, I didn't post this to bash anybody or any company. I simply was not sure how the switch was supposed to work since it is stuck and didn't want to risk ruining this part. Like I said earlier, this is the first time I've ever dealt with any type of air grabber setup. I've had this car for 30 years and felt like it was time. I've always wanted an air grabber.

With that said, I just spoke with YearOne and they're going to immediately ship one out direct from the manufacturer to speed up processing. That's great customer service!

Thanks everyone for your input, it felt like a funny question to ask. I don't know anybody around here with an air grabber and just wanted to make sure.

MOPAR on no car!

Kevin King runs a pretty good show there at Year One... and now Richard's lads are running to the DCS shelf to get what you need shipped out!

I myself have harped on YO myself at times for crazy shipping and wrong parts, but never ever burn a supplier bridge. The parts we all need to complete our restorations are going to slowly and in some case already have dried up, with no volume to support resurrection. Richard is the gem we have amongst us that is doing his damndest to make sure that doesn't happen. If you see this guy, on the left.... shake his hand! The guy on the right... well...

I've actually bought a lot of stuff from year one back in the early 2000's. I had a couple of bad experiences with them and started going elsewhere. sure they have helped the hobby tremendously. but all it takes is some really bad customer service to lose people. maybe it was a couple of isolated incidents, but I haven't the need or desire to try them again.

Year One had enough shitty business practices in the early years that they'll never see a dime of my money ever again....
