Original Hemi and trans for sale (NOT MINE, but I wish)

440's built right are tough as nails and hit like a hammer... hard to justify anything else really
I agree. What's harder is pull a fine running 425 HP 440 because today's hot rods make more power? My sensible voice has been winning. So far?

They are torque monsters for sure. Which is exactly what these big heavy assed cars need to get up an go.

I have a 2003 Mustang Cobra. About 400 HP at same weight as my GTX. 3600+ Lbs) And it pulls away from the GTX in 1/4 race. Until the end. Then the 440 starts putting down its power. And can easily out top end. Its because of gears. GTX 4 speed with the 3.54:1 Dana is no match for the Cobra's 6 speed. But at 1:1? The supercharged 4.6 litre is no match for the 440. My 2014 Cadillac XTS twin turbo 6 cyl. Same thing. GTX runs her down too even faster. Her 28" tall rear tires are also not helping at lower speeds. But top end? About 150 MPH for the old Plymouth. It is definitely a highway commando. And whats even more amazing? Very little high speed vibration from a 51 year old car. The Cobra at 130+ MPH? Begging to left off. GTX? "More please" Where this has occurred im afraid is classified.

The one problem GTX does have at speeds higher than 120 MPH? The wind pushes wiper blades to vertical positioning. And are not happy. Take them off? No problems then.

The next problem the wind does as speed increases is the car gets light. -I pushed my 68 Hemi RR to 150 mph once and had very little steering.:)

Thats the reason we dropped the front end over an inch.

It would be interesting to see data from testing on this issue. As I recall from years ago a stock 68/69/70 charger was 300 lbs light in the front at only 70 MPH. Never heard of data about the weight loss at the back end.

Mine came with 14" rims on front. 15's on the rear. With another 1" taller tire profile. Thus the rear is a little more than 1" higher than stock stance. I'm sure that changes things. The rims match so I never changed. But does explain why this car behaves very differenty than my first '69 GTX that was very close to identical in build options. My first was a little quicker thru the gears. This one faster on top.

Makes me appreciate my 5.7 just that much more!

Cutting/pushing thru the wall of air is a separate issue from the HP and gearing that does the work to do so. Getting to high speed is one thing and driving at high speed is another.
Driving my 68 RR at 150 was a scary nightmare. (never again) --My hellcat challenger at 150 felt like 70 and followed where I pointed it in a solid way.
BTW good tires that are speed rated just give an added plus to those of us that want to push the limits.:steering:

A few beers, speedo sitting back at zero, some good old CTC Tornado tires and one hand on the wheel. Oh to be 18 again... :D

All I know for sure, the cops hated me as the LTD's couldn't keep up. I have one of the finest, that is now 70+ that remembers me fondly and contacts me almost yearly to have some laughs.

That's a lot of coin. Mine is missing the transmission but was still a whole lot cheaper...
