Hey All,

I'm getting my '68 Charger ready for paint and body. So much of it is out, but I need to remove the decklid - and this looks "kind of a little bit tricky" as my 6 year old would say.

Anyone have any good reference material (I'm a big fan of videos) that show how to do this and preserve the equipment so it can be used again?

Thanks all!

You want to remove just the decklid? It's two bolts on each side, easy. You want to remove the hinges? Remove the decklid first, then release the torsion bars.

When you loosen the bolts, hold the lid in place, without it tilting. be careful that the weight of the lid doesn't rest on the ( rods) that they go through. Or they will rest against the back side of the lid face, and make dents.

To remove just the deck lid, remove 2 cap screws on each side and pull up to slide the lid off the hinges.

Idk what theyre called, but the flat bars, that act as nuts for each side, have a hook at the top of where they slide in, to prevent them from falling down in. I cant remember if there is a right and left bar though.

If you are doing it by yourself Put some Thick pads under the corners To keep the lid from denting your filler panel. Unscrew bolts and lift it up off of hinges

This is very important. I dented mine putting it back on. Get help, 2 man job , don't do it on your own unless you're 7 ft tall and built like a linebacker.

Yep, i dented one too. Experience isn't always a pleasant teacher, but you remember the lesson.

You guys are all awesome - great advice across the board. Paint me an idiot - as usual - for not seeing the two bolts on each side. I managed to avoid denting it when I took it off by going slow - got lucky and was able to do it alone.

Once again, this site rocks. Thanks all!
