Is there different heads that came with 440 six pack are a 440 with a 4 barrel on it . Would it have bigger valves on the six pack over the 4 barrel ? And how would u tell the difference between the two . One would think that the six pack would have bigger valves than the 4 barrel. R there numbers on the heads to tell them apart? And some one had gave me a gift and I wanted to thank them .

Same heads within the same model year. Only difference from a 383 2bbl to a 440+6 is the valves & springs. Same exact head casting. Same valve size.

yep, under the valve covers. They could also be 452’s which are the same as 906’s but have hardened seats. They would’ve been changed tho, as 452 didn’t come out until 1973 I believe, but a popular change to get the hardened seats for unleaded has. Other possible heads are 516, 915, 346, and 250, which are all direct bolt on’s but have different sized valves and chamber designs.

Yes, the casting number is on top of the intake port. The '69 & 70 6 Pak motors will have 906 heads. My recollection is that the '71 6 Pak's may have had 906 or maybe 346,in a a few most likely 906. Valve size is the same.

Agreed. Along with proper sentence structure, why is it that two extra letters to complete the words "your", "you" and "are" that big of a burden to type for the younger generation?

Its left over from when texting was new and data limits were normal. Fewer letters was less data.

The 452 heads have the hardened seats from the factory but if they are machined later on there goes the hardness :)

A follow up question, i thought the hardening was an "electro heat treating" which I didn't think was surface hardening, true or?

My machinist says the early years they were just “flame hardened” which is very thin.

Younger? I have a few relatives in their 70’s that do this when they text.

I wonder how they would do that on a production line. I'm not challenging that, but seems difficult.
Also wonder how much durability was really lost with the elimination of lead? Maybe at 30-50K miles would show up. Just curious if there is any actual data on that.

The 975 and 452 heads have flame headered seats. No factory BB head had true hardened seats.

‘67 #915 440 & 440HP.
The 915 was made with both size exhaust valves all year.
