I have a fraudulent charge on my credit card which is linked to pay pal....I disputed it immediately with pay pal and they are investigating.
I called the credit card and put a stop on the account. They will send me a new card with a new account number. The charge in question on pay pal is under a hundred dollars....
I cant seem to see how to shut down my pay pal account.... I used their messaging service as I cant find a phone number to talk to a actual rep, but the answers are generated automatically, no real rep on the other end.
Im now thinking pay pal isn't for me and possibly I will just use a CC in the future
Has anyone had these sorts of issues with PP?

Paypal are idiots. read my thread here, still hasn't got any solution.

Never had a problem and I've been using them for years but anywhere money is transferred online there's a risk. Hope they get it sorted out for you..

I’ve been with them for years as well Steve and never had an issue. I did have a fraudulent purchase on my cc one time though, and had to wait for my bank to investigate before having the money returned. The bank sent me a text in the middle of the night to alert me to a strange transaction overseas. I immediately put a stop on the card and then had to do the inconvenience run around, but all good in the end. This was for $1500 from a music store or something in the middle east. Go figure.

Change your password and the credit card number, probably all you need to do. If it’s a PayPal charge it means that someone has your password.

Here is the number

I had a charge and PayPal solved it quickly. This was a few years ago and no other problems. They were faster than my bank on a similar issue.

A few years ago my wife's bank accounts were hacked. This guy knew what he was doing, changed info, changed pass words, did cash withdrawals and a bunch of transfers as well as Paypal charges. It took a couple weeks but she got every dime back. The transfers just get reversed but I suspect the bank eats the cash withdrawals. Anyhow, with Paypal the bank just claws the money back somehow with no involvement on our part with Paypal. But in this case, the hacker linked here credit card to his (likely fake) Paypal account.

The interesting thing ... the bank traced the hacker and actually gave us their name and address. I would have gone and burned the house down but then I got thinking anyone good enough to hack was probably good enough to make it look like someone else!

I had a similar problem with PayPal but it was just a debit card that expired.
They make if very difficult to find a phone number and speak with someone.
After several tries I did find a phone number (it wasn't easy). They did help me out and I got it resolved.
It's been fine since.

I had fraudulent charges a few years ago. 3 days after i made the complaint i was reimbursed.

Paypal, double billed me two times for two different purchases. It took a long time for them to fix the problem. I now only use a credit card because it's easier to dispute a purchase.

This happened to me a few years back, twice. I did the same process that you have done. Both charges were also small. The bank stated that usually someone is trying to test the small charge to see if it gets thru and then the criminal will then charge a big ticket item. PayPal never got back to me on their findings for both instances and the bank stopped the payment and got new cards. I've not done business thru PayPal since. Good luck Steve

Its happening more often. I stopped using it. (1) the fees are to high.(2) they lately have takin way to long to resolve issues that are fraudulent (3) communication is aweful on there part.

When ebay and paypal seperated they both wash there hands of anything. Ebay is very quick to deny claims with out getting into the whole story.

I had an issue with a purchase I made using Paypal. I bought an item from a scammer that turned out to be in China. They never sent my item. I contacted Paypal and created a dispute through their site. It took about a month but they ended refunding my purchase price. I couldn't find a phone number either but it worked out. I don't like some of their policies and fees but I guess it is the price of doing business with complete strangers. My biggest complaint with them is when I sell an item, they not only charge a fee on the item but also on the shipping fees.

Things take time.

Its fixed. The charge was a automatic payment through pay pal from a grocery service I used when my wife first became sick years ago. Those first years when she became sick were hectic as I was still working two jobs and so I signed up for this grocery service when I didnt have time to get to the store.
I called the grocery service and spoke to a nice lady and we straightened out the problem and she reversed the charge.
I did early this mourning when I first posted canceled my credit card and now have to wait for a replacement but thats no problem
As far as PP they were not at fault but since I only really need them if I buy parts from somebody on this site or I used them for any parts on E bay, im going to have figure out what im going to do.
E bay is the issue, having pay pal protection is what id like when dealing with any private party on E bay, I rarely do so but even once in awhile would make it necessary.
Im a little old school or the truth is behind the times. I dont pay bills on line, no banking on line and I like to actually speak to a person who and if I have a problem. That seems to be getting harder and harder to do
Thanks to all who replied with help

I have PayPal and never had a problem. I like the Idea that no one gets my credit card info, and I do not
have it linked to my bank account. No Way! My pay Pal account used to be funded by my AMEX card, but I
recently changed it due to AMEX sent everyone a letter stating that they would no longer be giving points
for Pay Pal transactions of any kind! Screw that! Just so Ya know!

been using Paypal for years without a problem( 3 x cars + lots of parts )

I also have been using PayPal for years with no issues.
What I did do was applied for credit with PayPal, which is through Synchrony Bank, based in Connecticut. That keeps me from putting any CC information and I have my Lowes Home Improvement CC through Synchrony and they are great to deal with.
