Good morning, when I went to look the car I was able to turn the engine over by hand with the fan blade. The oil was brown but not to bad. After pulling the running gear I removed valve covers and pumped oil through the motor while cranking over the engine by hand. The oil came up milky. What changed was my painter had the car outside catching some sun before the cut and buff. A quick shower came by and rain water got into the engine. After removing the intake I found a puncture hole in the valley pan. I believe it was factory. I have spoke to several of the original owners family members the only work done was some distributor issues and carb issues. You can see the original paint on the valve cover gaskets, all the metal gaskets were mopar as well.

Check out the play on the nylon gear, the motor was disassembled and sent to a local machine shop, where the block was prepped, and the heads rebuilt to stock specs. This is about the time Rona started to effect day to day life here.

The suspension was disassembled and soaked in evaporust, some great markings were found, not just the assembly line indicators, but the inspection markings on the attaching hardware. I tried to preserve as many as possible.

Check out the fuel pump bolts with engine paint, the balancer has a date code stamped on it, the drivers valve cover has a faint 5 on it. I pressure washed the tranny and found all kinds of markings.

With Rona settling in our work got cut back to just essential duties, which gave me a lot of time on my hands so I decided to rebuild my first automatic transmission, (a post I read said it was so easy anyone can do it). I bought a kit and some tools, ( always looking for a reason to buy tools) and rebuilt the trans. Looked good, check out the dates on the components.

You have a great car there and your making some great progress . I did notice the aftermarket water pump. You could get get the original rebuilt if you wanted to keep all the casting numbers right. It looks like it’s really a complete car that wasn’t swapped around ... I’d think it’d be hard not to bring all of it numbers matching including starter, alternator, distrubutor, carb, water pump etc.. as it’s got so much going for it.. I really like it, not telling you what to do but man it’s neat and to have the history! You may even consider the books that are out for guidance and help identifying what goes where ... Neat car!

Yes that is a high flow aftermarket water pump. The car had a replacement pump on it, I live in the Mojave Desert at 3000+ feet, so I decided to go with more cooling. The original radiator was also re-cored to a 3 row, versus the original 2 row. This is the 102nd car I have built, it is a great car and I feel a bit guilty for not doing an OEM restoration, but I am not doing any more OEM cars, the stress level is to high, and most "experts" are full of s#$t. I have 5 of the black with yellow lid crates from the home debit with all the original parts from the car plus a correct water pump. This car is so relaxing to drive, arm hanging out the window the am radio play some Spanish station, while floating over the poorly maintained CA roads. She heats up a bit at traffic, so I will probably add a fan shroud. Dixie restoration did the alt, and when I find a proper starter they will do it as well. Carb is correct and restoration done by Harms, turn key from delivery. Distributor is original and rebuilt by me.
Thank you for your compliments.
Ron

All I could say was I really liked enough to say hey it’s too close to not go all the way... I must say again it’s a score in my book! I drove my buddies 69RR 383 4 gear the other day.. it was awesome! Not a perfect car by just fun and solid and rowing the boat got the blood pumping and we had my son in the back who was shocked I could drive like that.. lol! My buddy made my day by letting me drive it.. I did ring it out and it was a blast! In the back of my mind I was telling myself I break it I’m buying it lol..I get the numbers bs, I’m doing my RT correct as possible and as close to 70 as I can get but it will be driven and enjoyed by me I just like it all 70. I wondered what you were up to and Jim is a personal friend at Dixie, awesome guy, Scott does fabulous work at Harms too.. Enjoy the car ! Keep us posted it’s cool!

The plates are original check out the pink 68 decal, seat frames and track are in great shape, rear dash, the tach is not coded on the broad cast sheet but is circled, appears to be original to the original owner when purchased but may be dealer added?

Here are some completed pictures, the one on the grass is from Mopars in May, there is a youtube video of the cars leaving the show, towards the end you can see my daughter and wife driving it out.
