Car was a piece , even new…..good lord.
The 1987 GNX was years ahead of it's time. I owned a 1987 Grand National and it was fast stock. After my friend Timmy changed the chip and tuned the fuel injection, it was an 11 second street car with AC, CD player and a warranty.

….I never liked the cars from the later 80s . Interiors, motors and paint were usually pretty bad. My poison was the IROC and z28 coupes….I also had a GTA turbo, that was just terrible…..

I bought a 1989 Trans Am GTA brand new. After a chip change, it was a great street beater, and a real chick magnet. I'm Italian and grew up in Jersey, every Guido had an IROC or a Trans AM. It was a rite of passage.

I came real close to buying a new T type, bought a Jeep instead.

They are nice machines. My son and I was looking at an '87. With new interior and upgrades. Wanted $35k for it. Considering I'm having troubles finding one simular to even compare? So that also says something.

They stunned the auto world then. When everything was so crappy in the mid 80s? And not just the turbo V-6. The suspension had Buick race technology. Made Monte Carlo SS a joke. Word had it GM was on Buick's case about out performing the Vette? (Damn, those parent companies really got in the way. Chrysler and Ford too)

My biggest complaint was that the T-Tops leaked from the very first time I removed them and nothing the dealer did could stop it. I kept it 2 years and sold it to buy a triple black 71 Challenger R/T!! Who needs T-Tops when you have a big block.

Interesting. I bet that's why it got a new interior? Will keep that in mind.

I was referring to my Trans Am GTA that I bought new in 89. My GN was a hard top.
That being said, I love my Mopars, but the late 80's GM's were fast for the time. I owned a 1989 Daytona Charger turbo and it was JUNK!! The 2.2 was over rated to say the least, so I bought the Trans Am.

In what was a bad time for cars in general it was the first sign that one could get real performance with emissions. That was the first step toward the insane HP we see today. $250k seems really steep for a car where every single one was rolled into a garage and put on blocks but hey, good for the seller.

Ok. The GN we were looking at (and still available) does have T-top. But my son is not sold. Even when I said it will pull on my GTX thru the 1/4. (But after? The 440 would be PISSED! And run it down by 140 MPH) Thats what is amazing about my '69? That thing doesn't shake at any speed? My first GTX was done at 130. With a decent and even scary vibration. This guy? I watch speedo bury and tach reach 6000k before I can hear/feel valve float. (Assuming stock speedo and tach is all that accurate.) But chassis certainly didn't mind. My fear was tires not handling anymore?

She's not a REAL guido. She's not even Italian, she's from Chile. I do know Vinnie from that stupid Jersey Shore show. He's my wife's 2nd cousin from Staten Island.

Meanwhile over in Mopar world, those of us who had little Shelby critters actively stalked those Buicks...
we were already bored with Corvettes and such. :)

The clean, low mile, 80’s stuff is coming up. People who were young when they were out have the money now. Values follow the age of the people interested.

Remember when restored Model A’s were expensive?
