Does anyone know what goes inside this cup? When i took it apart, it was crumbling. Felt like it might have been open cell polyurethane foam.

Thats exactly what mine looked like after 50 years. You are correct in that it was poly foam. I just made one from some leftover poly I had in the shop. Just make sure the material is impervious to brake fluid in case if a MC leak. Couldn't find one separately on line without buying an expensive kit. Look at Harmon Brakes on the net.

Appreciate the response....was the cup simply packed with foam or was it in the shape of a gasket, etc.?

It was shaped like a swimming pool noodle. Cylinder shape fitting the OD and a hole slightly smaller to hug the push rod. It gets a slight compression when everything is bolted together. About an inch thick.

ok. i can picture it. thanks. i wonder what it was for? to silence the sucking sound when the brakes were applied/released?

Thanks for your help Mr. Murray. I found some pipe wrap open cell foam that fit perfect.
