Actually my brother just had to drag it home. I agreed. 440 mag car. Not much left but some trim for my 4 spd car.
But the providence came out...

Sadly it's junk. See the log sticking out behind the tire? Holding the leaf springs. One of 368 though!

You sure somebody assumed 163 mph instead of 163 KPH. Owner could have said "I was clocked at 163" and didn't say KPH because that's how they measure speed. Could be wrong?

I once drove a 68 New Yorker 440 like I stole it. The needle went past 120, went a ways more, and then disappeared from view. 308 gears and H series tires, how fast was I going?

This is passed down oral history!!!
Who knows what Crack they were on.
But a a stock car like this will haul. My Dad had a 68 300 that I swung the needle far into right field.
163 mph is a bit much.

Neat car...... but I don't for a second believe that ever was a 163mph car. Or 140 either, truth be told.....
Edit : I would believe 163 KPH, considering it was in Quebec. 100 mph, yep

you could do the math..... rpm, gear ratio, tire height........ that 440 was probably turning 8K :fool:

I thought that the 69 Monaco 440 hp police cruiser was the fastest C body and top speed was 139 mph.

We weren't always metric, we only officially converted in 1975.
Was wondering about that. As a kid we took drivecations all over eastern Canada. Didn't pay attention to speed limit signs. The Ol' man didn't either got a ticket on P.E.I..

The 1969 Dodge Polara had a sleek new streamlined body style called the “Fuselage Design”, which would continue until its end of production in 1973. The new streamlined body style, 3.23 gears, and the 375 horsepower 440 Magnum made this one fast cruiser.

  • 0-60 MPH = 6.3 Seconds
  • 0-100 MPH = 18.1 Seconds
  • 1/4-Mile = 14.3 Seconds
  • Top Speed Recorded = 149.6 MPH (Chrysler test track in Chelsea, Michigan)
The California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) were prized enough customers that Chrysler made specific parts for each department. The California Highway Patrol even had its own cam grind.

This car was so fast that it’s 149.6 MPH top speed record wouldn’t be broken until the 2006 5.7L Dodge Charger recorded a 150 MPH top speed during the Michigan State Police vehicle evaluations."

The 0-60 and quarter mile times even seem a bit fast on this one to me, this test car was tuned properly for sure.

Nice. I'd never heard about the special cam grind before thanks.

When I was rebuilding my 440 circa 03-05, the older machine shop brought down a box with about 1/4" of dust on it.... He showed me the number and the number in the catalog.... 375 HP 440..... $20 bucks later it was mine...

When a kid, the State Hi-Pos got a standard Mopar, Plymouth or Dodge depending on bids, and were allowed any modifications they wished. Was told the car might arrive with Direct Connection parts in the trunk. Mechanics in small towns like Pukwana would hop up these cars to the owner's specs.

With 3.23 this equates to 6400-6500 rpm depending on tire size. I'd say that CHP cam came with some heavy valve springs as well. I agree that the 14.3 quarter mile tells the story.
