Canards on the side of the inlet!
Everyone hails the P51 as the ultimate fighter of WW2, but with a radiator that was susceptible to battle damage, I'd rather chose the P47. As there are stories where they we shot to hell, and being air cooled engine aircraft, it made it home.

One memorable display of thunderous noise I saw and heard was a tight 4x4 diamond formation of Lockheed F-104 aircraft flown by Taiwan (ROCAF); and flying just under the cloud deck. Glorious! lol
