Antenna rattle fix?

Anybody know how to stop the telescoping antenna tubes from rattling and buzzing short of removing it from the car? It's on my 69 Coronet.

Never heard of this before. Replace the antenna? With a non-telescoping antenna.

I'd probably go with above, but if you're on a tight budget... pull it all the way up, then take each section down an inch or so and smear some grease in, then pull it back up tight. Wipe clean..

Adjust it to the height you
want and apply shrink wrap
to each joint. 3/4" on
either side of the joint works
well. (Been there). You will
lose it's telescoping
functionality.

Snakes rattle. Bees buzz. Antenna ? Never came across one o' those. Anyway... Hook 'Em !

Thanks for the idea. The problem is that when its lowered completely each section rattles against the one it slips into. Most likely no way to stop it. Just thought I'd see if anyone had experienced the same thing.

The shrink wrap will hold it
tight. I've used this on two
seperate antennas. When
installing, it's best to find
the antenna position that
still allows for best
reception. The only time I've
found where the antenna is
lowered completely is when
going thru a carwash. In
such cases, I merely
remove it.
Another option is to buy a
non-telescoping antenna
(ie....a Jeep TJ antenna that
has a spiral wound coil
around it.) Easy to remove
w/5/16 wrench.

I've never seen an antenna so worn out I could hear it rattle over my engine. Buy a new one if grease won't fix the one you have and just thread it in. No need to replace the lower mount if it's OE...

Agree, Dadsbee. I was only
offering the redneck
solutions that have worked
for me in the past. Shrink
wrap is cheap, and it works.
Of course, the best
alternative is just to replace
it with a new one.
