“Video” Another Possible Hydraulic Roller Lifter Failure?

My guess is lifter lost control hammered the roller bearings then flat spotted roller and then took out cam lobe and then broke link bar.
just my theory again...
That would be my theory as well.

Either way everyone just thinks it was a parts failure?
Morel/ trickflow are extremely specific about preload instructions which I mentioned, but no information surfaced. So was it a installation failure first? Don't know

I had an opportunity a couple years ago to try the Comp Evolution lifters in a 505 stroker.
I’ve never been happy with the lack of rpm and noisy operation from the Morels, so these interested me.
I somewhat stacked the deck for success by using a cam with rpm friendly lobes, but still went with 1.6 rockers.

I regret not attempting a pull to 6500, but the combo peaked a few hundred lower than that, and it just didn’t get done.
But there was no evidence of any problems thru 6300, and they were much quieter than the Morels I’d heard.

Those over Johnsons?

Since you’re coming off a failure, I’d aim for the “best” I could get.

The high output marine stuff done here get the Johnsons.
Those are way harder on parts than the typical street/strip combo.

Johnson’s and a smoother cam profile should be a reliable package.

I watched the dyno video linked on the previous page.

I got a little chuckle out of him talking about having an engine on the dyno with Morel lifters have the plungers get stuck at the bottom……on the first pull.

When that happened to me, it changed my view on what I feel is usually going on when the power noses over at higher rpm with Hyd lifters.

The way he made it sounds the Johnsons HR,s don’t do it any of that‍♂️

I can’t think of any local builds that would have tested the high rpm capabilities of the Johnsons.
The marine stuff is usually rpm limited to about 6k or less.
But they will often see that rpm for extended periods.

My feeling is, for most s/s type builds, if a retrofit hr combo will get you to an honest usable 6200, that’s plenty for most applications.

Im going to pull my motor maybe tomorrow or the next day. Evaluate everything and go from there. If I can save this engine and decide to go back through it id like to get ahold of you on setting me up with a cam.

I had similar problems with the hydraulic rollers in the 440 in my Savoy. An engine builder friend of mine suggested I needed to check the end play in the cam. He added that the stock Mopar timing covers are notoriously flexible. I changed to this timing cover and carefully set the end play. Problem solved. MRE - Billet Timing Cover
Something must have been flexing or happened when it broke. Definitely a raised place here.
