So I just bought this 67 Coronet 500, There was a 440 installed and it looks to be a 1979 engine. It has been freshly rebuilt. My question is what is going on between the head and intake manifold? I have always built Chevy hot rods so this is my first dodge so don't know to much about 440's. It looks to me like its the wrong manifold on here or wrong gasket? I will be pulling the motor any ways to repaint it the right color and also to repaint the engine compartment. I was thinking of installing an intake and headers as it does have a small cam. Get rid of the points distributor and go electronic .

Another thing is a found the canister under the driver side front fender. two lines come out from it and through the inner fender right behind the brake booster but not hooked up to anything. Thinking it could of been a vacuum canister but why?

Any help
Thanks
Bruce

No that manifold looks to be for a 440/RB intake at a min

it's the right gasket too

that's part of the (chike/intake) heat riser passage from the heads
it doesn't have anything to do with the intake seal or gasket goes

if you want any power out of it (heat kills power)
get a gasket that blocks that 'heat riser' off
especially if it's not driven much in cold weather,
I guess it depends on the type of choke too,
an electric choke doesn't need it
the heat comes from the exhaust to shut off the choke stove spring when warm,
if it's stock choke

Right now it has a manual coke which is not hooked up. I would prefer an electric coke so may change the carb. So what is a 440?RB intake? If I go and replace this intake with an aftermarket one, I just need to make sure I get a gasket that will cover the whole head to block the holes off then?

I did figure they were for heat that is suppose to line up with ports on the intake, that why I was kind of figuring that was the wrong intake for this motor.

Thanks

Check your hood clearance
if you got enough room
& if you can get a Edelbrock Perfomer RPM, Dual plane intake for a 440 or RB style engine

it's like 5-3/8" tall to the carb mount from the deck
$358 from Summit racing
Intake Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake 4bbl dual plane edl-7193 $358.16 - Summit Racing.jpg

Hands down the 'greatest/best street intake' for an RB engine (440)
for these Big Block Mopars
an RB is known as a 'Raised Block'
like all the 413, 426 wedge or 440's
(440 has the biggest bore 4.32" of the 3, same stroke),
they are all 'Raised deck blocks'
it's a tad bit wider & has a taller 'raised deck' height from the crank,
than a B 'low deck' series big block

(& 66-71 426 based Hemi's is a RB too, but that's a completely different animal,
Hemispherical Heads & almost nothing swaps over, except cam & water pump, starter, RB distr. etc.)

a B-series is known as a 'Low deck block',
has many of the same parts, as an RB, except intake, is narrower & distributor shaft is shorter
(it's a narrower, lighter & slightly shorter deck engine)
& is like a 361, 383, 400 BB Mopar

I was looking at this one

Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifolds 2191

Just because it performed from idle on up plus it was just over 4" in height. It does I crap on there that I don't need but them don't seem to offer much for a 440. I will have to measure how much room I have from the base of the carb that's on there now to the hood.

A 440 RPM will fit under the hood of a 66 67 Dodge B with the right drop base filter.
