Need green bearings!!!

My car was off the road for 3 weeks because I blew up my diff and had to wait for parts to arrive to rebuild it. Now that it’s all together, I’ve driven it twice only to have the drivers side outer axle seal give up the ghost. No local parts suppliers seem to be able to acquire the seals or replacement bearings so I thought this would be a great time to upgrade to the “green” bearings. Does anybody know of any supplier with the MO-400 style bearing in stock? I tried Doctor Diff but they have nothing.

I wouldn’t call green bearing an upgrade. But all the bearings and seals are available for my 8 3/4 on rock auto.

I would think a sealed bearing is an upgrade from caged tapered bearings and eliminating the outer seal and adjuster is a bonus. The press in green bearings are not what I’m after

) if you were actually doing high load cornering racing, the green bearing won't last as long. But, they way most of the people involved here drive .. it's not a concern

Absolutely not an upgrade. Easier? Yeah but the load carrying capability is much lower than stock.

Where are you going to find a bearing that does not need the inner seal? You'd need to cut off the axle ends and weld in a different type to make this change...a radical change that is of no great benefit over the tapered bearing design.
I fell for the hype and bought Moser axles with the sealed ball bearings and wore out the left side in less than 8000 miles. I was in a jam and replaced both with Mopar Performance sealed bearings and while they have held up fine, I know they are not a long term solution. When these start to fail, I'm going back to the Timkens.

Get the bearing/seal numbers and order timkens off fleabay. Better bearings and prices are usually reasonable.

Let’s not forget that Ford used the roller bearing from the late 50s till the 80s or so Chevy from the late 50s till 64. Only difference was that they had a pin in the center the same as any open diff to keep sideways movement to a minimum. Other brands may have used them but this 2 examples. Kim

C clips and differential pins are a common design used by many automakers. The Chevys are the ones known for losing the C clips and having the axle shafts slide out without warning.
Why are Mopars less likely to have this happen? Do our cars have a closer tolerance at the axle shaft to differential pin?

Because the 8 3/4 is a kind of semi floating axle. The 9 1/4 is C-clip axle similar to GM. I have not had a look at a Dana 60 out of Chrysler car, but I believe they are similar to the 8 3/4 as far as axle retention?
