'67 GTX Flip Top Gas Cap Seal Problems

I’ve noticed the rubber seal on the setup I received from Mega Parts cracking as well. On one hand I’m thankful they even reproduce them, on the other why make a fuel system part that doesn’t tolerate fuel?

Received a couple of reproduction seals yesterday, I don’t have a lot of confidence . Thought about soaking one in gas overnight but maybe I’ll just consider this to be a two year supply

I asked mega parts if they were going to have any new 67 flip top gasket sets. The reply was this.

Not sure if we will be getting anymore unless someone else is making them.

For now I’ve removed the GTX assembly and depending on a Taiwan made cap to keep fuel from streaming down my fender:praying:

They're rubber correct? If so you could soften then with Ditzler vinyl conditioner or Lestoil cleaner. DON'T over do it if you try it, it will swell the rubber a lot if you leave it overnight or longer. If you have your old one try that first. Reason to try this is to make it more pliable so gasket will conform to the car body and ring. I'm worried that it could screw up your new part because it mentioned the material isn't gas resistant.

This is what’s left of my old reproduction seal after a couple years. And for the record never used gas containing alcohol

I’m really wishing I had hung on to my old seal after replacing it last year.
