440 6 Pack squealing noise only when completely warmed up

Millions of engine with flat tappet cams were sold without buttons....& lasted just fine. You should remove the button because:
- it is not needed
- just another part that could fail

Well...today was the day to find out if I found the squealing noise. I finally buttoned (no pun intended) everything back up and started the engine. Drove it around my neighborhood and got it up to operating temperature. No squeal. I believe it had to be the cam button. Some genius years ago rebuilt the engine using a flat tappet cam and installed a cam button. WHYYYYYYYYYY?????? It was touching the timing chain cover ever so slightly. Cam button is now in the garbage.

I'm very relieved that I found the problem but I'm completely lost as to why it took all these years later for this noise to occur. I've owned the car for 9 years so I know the engine was rebuilt at least 10+++ years ago. Weird.

Anyway, I found it, fixed it and I'm ready for some cruisin now. Thank you everyone for your input and advice. It was greatly appreciated.

Mike
