71 Charger Superbee Tribute/Restomod Build

Your out of season encounter with Bambi reminds me of something I plan on doing for my 65. Years ago my wife and I attended a Cadillac driving experience. The one portion that hooked me was when we were in a tent sitting in a car with the headlights on and fog going across the car. Whiteout of course. Then they turned on the FLIR system. What we couldn't see, was a guy waving at us, due to the fog. The Caddy engineer told me you can get FLIR systems aftermarket and retrofit your car. I plan on putting a Pioneer or other flat panel infotainment unit in the car and will be able to hook the FLIR to it. Pathfindr, Teledyne and GU Autotech have systems. The FLIR units allow you to see quite a distance ahead of you.

I have a bit of experience with FLIR but from a military side, that said its capabilities are nothing short of amazing.

What would be cool is if the FLIR could project onto the windshield and overlay what you see there giving you the advantages of the FLIR while retaining your normal sight line.

I would imagine the tech to do a HUD is out there, just a matter of cost. But, you never know.

As I recall this has already been done, I remember seeing someone demonstrating this tech at one of the defense shows I attended when I was in that industry. In fact now that I think about it, it was installed on a Porsche 996 which was armored and had all sorts of defensive things (shot gas out the side, had high intensity strobes, etc.) but they showed that it had a FLIR system where you could drive without the lights on and it would project the screen onto the windshield so it was like driving with the ability to see at night and through fog and smoke (fused night vision or I2 as we called it)

Been working on the car a little, got the rear panels, seat belts and seat in

What did you use to polish it clean and get rid of any scratches? I used Sud Factory Water Spot removal on my side windows after cook top cleaner and then a rinse. Came out virtually factory new.
I used a credit card... that is a new windshield from AMD.. LOL

That said, I did polish the back window with some 3M glass polish. It came out pretty nice but definitely not anywhere near new.

I began working on the hood. I got some paint on it which I am going to try and smooth out with some scotch bright pads and maybe some sand paper to make it look more natural. The bigger issue is that I am going to put a Superbee hood sticker and then paint the hood black out so that I can hopefully distress that.

Some more working on the hood patina. I bought like 8 different shades of brown (and used most of them). Not done yet but I am waiting on my Superbee sticker.

I have made some progress in that I got the interior in. I still need to do the sill plates BUT the seats have to come back out because they will not adjust in either direction. They brand new seat tracks so I am thinking that perhaps the seats are making too much contact with the carpet OR I have some other issue.

This was originally a bench seat car so I used the front holes that the bench used and then made new ones for the rears. It feels like the seats are all the way back but since they will not move forward either I cannot be sure.

I got the hood painted up with the black out and SB decal. Once I let this cure for awhile my intention is to lightly sand it and fade it into the rest of the hood but we will see.

That's what I am thinking. I am going to loosen the nuts and see if that makes a difference. If not then I have to pull the seats completely and see what is going on

I've been thinking about it and I don't think I am going to sand on the blackout, rather I am going to let it age naturally (at least for a while). I will see what I think once the car is completely assembled.
