71 Charger Superbee Tribute/Restomod Build

Your out of season encounter with Bambi reminds me of something I plan on doing for my 65. Years ago my wife and I attended a Cadillac driving experience. The one portion that hooked me was when we were in a tent sitting in a car with the headlights on and fog going across the car. Whiteout of course. Then they turned on the FLIR system. What we couldn't see, was a guy waving at us, due to the fog. The Caddy engineer told me you can get FLIR systems aftermarket and retrofit your car. I plan on putting a Pioneer or other flat panel infotainment unit in the car and will be able to hook the FLIR to it. Pathfindr, Teledyne and GU Autotech have systems. The FLIR units allow you to see quite a distance ahead of you.

I have a bit of experience with FLIR but from a military side, that said its capabilities are nothing short of amazing.

What would be cool is if the FLIR could project onto the windshield and overlay what you see there giving you the advantages of the FLIR while retaining your normal sight line.

I would imagine the tech to do a HUD is out there, just a matter of cost. But, you never know.

As I recall this has already been done, I remember seeing someone demonstrating this tech at one of the defense shows I attended when I was in that industry. In fact now that I think about it, it was installed on a Porsche 996 which was armored and had all sorts of defensive things (shot gas out the side, had high intensity strobes, etc.) but they showed that it had a FLIR system where you could drive without the lights on and it would project the screen onto the windshield so it was like driving with the ability to see at night and through fog and smoke (fused night vision or I2 as we called it)
