Referring to the book "MOPAR B- Body Restoration 1966-1970" by Shaw & Wilkins. On pages 92 & 93 it shows how drums were painted red if you had other wheels beside the factory steel wheels.
Can anyone tell me what year this started and what year Chrysler Corp. stopped this practice.

Is 1968 when they started doing it or when they ceased doing it ?
 
My '70 Charger with factory road wheels has painted 11" drums.

Also, @Richard Cranium has (and had) '68 B-bodies. He might be able to chime in tomorrow. He goes to bed early. :D
 
FYI My 72 Challenger Rallye 340 the drums were painted.
 
Here is a rear end I pulled out of a 73 Road Runner. Has some red and black is painted over that. Couldn't tell you if it is original or not.

Talked to a friend that bought a 1974 RR new. The rear drums were painted red.
 
I bought a new 75 R.R. and it had rally wheels and painted drums and rotors from the factory.
 
I had a 70 Roadrunner with minimal options that had all 4 drums factory painted. Still have the painted front drum assemblies that I replaced with front discs.

The rear brake drums on a 1974 Dodge Charger SE were factory-painted red as a brushed-on application at the assembly line, mainly to hide rust when visible through styled wheels like Rallye or road wheels. This was a standard Chrysler practice for 1969–1974 B-body models (including the Charger), though it applied only to the rear drums on cars with front disc brakes, like the SE. Owners and restorers often find traces of this original red under later gray overcoats, and it's typically recreated with heat-resistant engine paints like Dupli-Color Engine Red or Rust-Oleum Hemi Orange for authenticity.

Any rebuttals?

Had traces of red paint on my dad’s 67 RT drums. When there’s almost 60yrs of what-ifs hard to say if it was there. Car was built with simulated mag hubcaps so nothing woulda showed.
