71 Charger Superbee Tribute/Restomod Build

I was having some issues with the clutch, namely I felt that the Hyd TB had air in it because it didn't like to go into reverse. I spent some time working on that and managed to get it fixed up.

At this point I could not help but notice I had an increasing puddle on the floor of what appeared to be oil. I knew that that the passenger side valve cover was leaking a bit but this was more than that.

I am using a remote oil filter and as it turned out the filter block off was finger tight... So I got that tightened up and went to check the oil... none on the dipstick :( It wasn't ticking or knocking and it had good pressure so I think I dodged a bullet, tomorrow I will get some more oil for it.

Next on the list is the wiper motor, I rebuilt it and it tested out but now doesn't park and the switch has to be pushed in slightly to get it to turn off, not sure what all that is about.
 
Really good to see you have been able to get some seat time and give the car a running shakedown even just a few short runs. Your time and attention to detail pays dividends.
 
Yeah it was good, I still need to sort out a few gremlins but overall things are going well.
 
I have done a little bit of work on the car lately but not much. I have driven it a couple of times up an down the road just to log some data and do some tuning (actually have a friend doing the tuning).

I got the air grabber working, there was one wire that wasn't making contact in one of my connectors, so that is good.

One thing that I noticed is that the heater doesn't blow hot air. I began to research potential causes and arrived at a couple of them. The Vintage air system uses an electrically activated heater control valve (HCV) which in my case in under the dash behind the glove box. I put it there because its plastic and I was concerned that it would be damaged if I put it under the fender with the other lines and I didn't want it in the engine compartment.

Because the HCV is electrically controlled it has to have a ground and in some cases people either didn't ground them or had a bad ground. I do not think this is my issue as the HCV seems to be doing something when the temp knob is moved.

The next issue is the coolant flow. I am using the Holley mid mount system which gives you some options as how to route the heater hoses but they do not tell you which is the inlet and which is the outlet. It is possible that I have my system plumbed backwards which would not let coolant flow correctly.

I started the car yesterday and let it run for about 40 minutes, first off the car never got over 205 degrees. Secondly the heater lines never got warm let along hot. They were hot near the engine but that is it. I need to check what thermostat I have in there, I seem to remember putting in like a 190 or something so the engine isn't even opening the T stat or is just barely. I guess I should be happy a little because it doesn't overheat at all... LOL
 
My saga of the heater lines continues. I reached out to Holley because in the instructions for the mid mount kit they do not tell you which heater hose is the inlet and the outlet, rather they say to hook them up correctly...

Holley came back and provided some direct information and even included information from Vintage air. I checked my lines and I did in fact have them reversed. So I corrected that under the fender as that is the easiest place to do it and while doing that I saw that my tire had been rubbing on the lines so I made a new bracket there.

After reversing the lines I ran the car for quite awhile and while hot coolant did reach further into the heater lines the heater is still not blowing hot. I then attempted to bleed the lines by loosening them, actually I loosened the return side and that did not yield any real improvement so I then did the feed side and got hot coolant up to the bulkhead fitting that goes into the car.

So at this point I either have a huge air blockage in the heater core and/or the heater control valve is either in wrong (backwards) or not working.

In the picture of the mid mount, port #3 is the outlet that goes to the heater core and outlet #2 is the return (according to Holley)

I haven't gotten anywhere with the heater, however I have gotten the wiper back in. Unfortunately I believe the switch is bad because it will run on high and maybe low but doesn't want to turn off unless I get the switch in between the off and low position (half way) but it still doesn't part. The motor is fine because I tested that.

We will see... LOL Fortunately 1st Gen parts are available and cheap.. Not sure what I am going to do with it really. Its a 360 4spd which they say "it ran" recently. I might just leave it as it is with the 360, or I might put a G3 Hemi or Cummins 6BT.
