...experiences, sounds like I'm not in a danger zone yet and so far it hasn't puked any fluid. I am running 50/50 coolant w/2 bottles of waterwetter, 165 deg. T-stat, stock water pump. I considered the fan clutch thinking it might be an easier install but would do direct drive if it's more...
...side (if you can't fit a belt-driven fan), and leave the grille side open for fresh air. Try a lower thermostat. Also, consider some WaterWetter additive - the stuff works great when I do motorcycle track days and they don't allow traditional glycol coolant on the track (slip hazards). I'll...
...With factory shroud. I'm in AZ w 120+ temps. Idles for over 2 hrs, oops, at 184° and interstate at 176°. Largest, most blades mechanical fan and shroud!!!! Also make sure your w/p pulley is 20-30% smaller than crank pulley w/ a/c. I also run 50/50 coolant and add 2 bottles of waterwetter.
...with keeping the temps down.
As you can see, the filter has been catching all types of debris as you can see in the pics. I have some waterwetter in reserve just in case...
...to a perforated radiator a couple of years ago. Radiator now new....and before doing a Christmas parade in 2019, I made sure that the WaterWetter was a decent percentage....as our Christmas is in mid-summer. Temp held until right up to the last turn when I could get a little more speed and...
If it doesn't detonate or ping like hell
91 oct. (93 if you can get it) wil do OK
I know it's not ideal
where it could hurt it is under a load
or when you have tall freeway gears, part throttle
then apply more throttle under a load, it will detonate
IMHO
unless you are over about 11.4:1 static...
...to a shop to have it flushed. My question is, how can I flush through the engine to ensure the small passages in the head gaskets are not clogged up without removing the water pump and housing etc... have only used distilled water, green universal anti freeze and waterwetter. Thanks for any...
Do you have a recommendation on a brand of coolant to use? What do you think of just using distilled water and Redline WaterWetter? I see a lot of other companies make something similar to WaterWetter but I have never tried them. I agree with you about the Stay Frosty. Apparently no one on...
Vented caps are for coolant recovery systems like was mentioned in post #20. Makes sense to me..... https://www.coolcatcorp.com/Radiator%20Caps/Radiatorcaps.html
...fan was cooling better without a shroud than the 17" 6 blade fixed fan is with a shroud? I guess I can test the theory. What about WaterWetter? If the high temps don't change with either fan, any thoughts what to try next? These scorching summer temps have me keeping my car in the garage...
...powder dishwasher detergent flushes for the greasy/gooey gunk. Then 2 bottles CLR n water flush. Then plain water then 50/50 water anti freeze w waterwetter. Hopefully get all the gunk out. Have no idea how it got in there since block was hot tanked, machined. And all other parts are brand new.
...are a combination of propylene glycol and water that has gone thru the reverse osmosis process. That sounded better than tap water and waterwetter. Does propylene glycol have the same specific heat characteristics as the glycol in "regular" coolant or is it different? I've talked to the guys...
Personally, I use a 60% - 40% mix of Dexcool and tap water. Any "water wetter" product is just a ionic surfactant which just breaks down the surface tension of the water to allow it to better contact the heat transfer surfaces.
I believe that a glycol based coolant contains an anti rust...
...advance up to constant intake vacuum source not ported vacuum, so was pulling total vacuum advance timing right from idle and the motor would over heat. Took me a new replacement radiator, new 7 blade fan, new clutch, thermostat, coolant with waterwetter etc....before i realized my mistake.
After going through some cooling gremlins doing some research on this, some aftermarket shrouds can make things go from bad to worse. A deeper tunnel can skew the airflow and includes where the fan sets inside of it. A shroud is usually helpful to direct airflow to the engine. In my case I...
...with a 15# pressure cap increases the boiling point of the coolant to 265° F. YES...water is the better alternative and adding a "water wetter", which is an ionic surfactant, which decreases the surface tension of the water, promoting better heat transfer. A modern day water pump does not...
...does a blown hemi.
My 496 w mechanical fan, factory shroud, 2 row aluminum 26" radiator, flowkooler w/p, 70/30 coolant w 2 bottles of WaterWetter and 180° t-stat runs 174° on interstate in 120° temps and 161° in 95° temps. 196° in stop n go traffic in 120° and 185° in 95°.
3 different dual...
I didn't think Alaska was all that bad
it's a dryer cold
I think winter in the high Sierras is worse, & wetter
not as cold, but once it gets to about 10*f
it all feels the same, 32* is tee-shirt weather :poke:
the farther the north & east you go the colder it gets
probably why Ak only has...
WaterWetter (Redline) , Royal Purple Ice,
and similar products along with STRAIGHT WATER actually is the coolest running solution to put in a radiator BUT
WARNING
Antifreeze MUST be used or corrosion will result.
I'm only mentioning the water+waterwetter combo because the topic lends itself to...
