Thanks all, I pulled the #4 and #2 plug wires and #4 is cooked for sure. I'll see if I can modify the plug wire brackets to give more space between the wires and header tubes. Not much space on #4 between the plug and shock tower. Maybe some of those fiberglass boot protectors would help.
Header primary tubes on cylinders 2 and 4 have some strange discoloration on the header tubes. very close to where the plug wires are. I have angled ceramic plug boots on all other wires but it was too tight on these cylinders, so I used regular firecore rubber boot 90 deg wires.
Never seen...
The silicone and steel/silicone gaskets don’t need anywhere near the 15 ft-lbs.
4-5 ft lbs was all that I needed for the Moroso blue silicone trans pan gasket. Some of the silicone-only gaskets say 3-3.5 ft-lbs.
If it’s not leaking, you already won. ;)
I'm a ways off of doing my own, but have been doing some research. I got a quote from American Powertrain for a TKX 5-speed, hyd throwout bearing, manual pedal assembly, shifter, clutch, clutch master cyl, bellhousing, fluids and everything for $7k. All name-brand stuff, too.
I have the 440 source water pump housing and used the American Autowire kit. It comes with the sensor (1/4" NPT) and 2 bushings; 3/8" and 1/2". I used the small bushing, so 3/8" worked for me.
I may be confused but this is from the ad:
"New reproduction 66-69 Hemi positive battery cable bracket. This bracket keeps the battery cable from contacting the exhaust system. Paint hemi orange with the engine. The last photo shows a longer bracket installed. Includes OEM correct small...
1968 Charger, I believe it is the original trans. It has the 1-post NSS connector. All the wiring is new, but I don't think it's a wiring problem. New shifter and shifter cable. It's a big block car if that matters.
I was trying to start it for the first time in a long while but could not...
Honest question, but how are you planning to address this? Just swap in a new thrust bearing and button it back up? Or is more needed to make it right?
I bought this Moroso unit and their 93110 gasket. I must've gotten it on sale because I definitely didn't spend $250.
It is a nice piece with a rigid flange, good reviews. I just got the trans back in the car and haven't loaded it with fluid yet, so no personal experience there...
Thanks guys. I cleaned up my inbox.
The transmission shop has a great reputation here locally as being fair in general. They do a lot of late-model work but have carved out a niche working on classics, too. Talking to some other folks with vintage cars, more than a couple mentioned I should...
