1970 Coronet

About this Mopar:

Finally made this....anyway, a few months ago I bought one of m favoruite cars ever, a 1970 Coronet, 4-door. It is a 440 model, with 318 engine and A904. I'm pretty sure it has a 2.71 rear....still, it's a lot faster than the /6 Valiant!

Latest updates

Hello, it has been a while. But finally, she is nearing completion. Not completely done mind you, but off the rack and in primer! Should hopefully be just a month or two left...

So, it got hit pretty hard, and some parts could not be salvaged, like the rocker panel. I managed to find another '70 Coronet in a junkyard (they had exactly 1) which provided the right side doors (oddly the doner car had the side bode trim much higher up than mine?) , as well as the rocker panel, rear quarter, and B-pillar. (He ended up not needing the doner's B-pillar, but I didn't know that at the time.) Apparently there was a surprising amount of bondo in the old rear quarter. (Now you might see some in the new pics, but it's a very thin layer--just filling in shallow pitting and the like, and not dent-hiding.)
Progress has been very slow as it was a 1 man shop with a lot of other customers who had to take precedent, but ah well. He did say he quite liked working on it, as it has metal thick enough to do real work with unlike newer cars.

Funnily enough, the engine still runs well despite 5 year old gas, he had no problems driving from the rack to the paint booth. (Though I may or may not have filled it with 100LL Avgas [since I work at an airport] the last time I filled it before the wreck, I can't really remember. Lots of lead and no ethanol in that stuff!)

Anyway, just showing you all that I still have the Coronet and she's going to be back on the roar soon! Will post more updates as they happen.

Wow! That was a gnarly hit! Glad to see you almost at the end of a restoration.

Nice Car. I love the nose on the 70 Coronet. Haven't seen too many that color. I'll bet you get decent mileage with the 318 as well!

I'm a little surprised that the car didn't have a vinyl top on it. That was a common accessory to dress up Mo Pars of that vintage. In fact, my 1974 Dodge Coronet 4-door has had a vinyl top since it was new. It's probably just as well that you don't have one on your car as they can leak and cause rust in the sheet metal top.Nice car, BTW. I like to see B-bodies with their original drive trains - the 318 LA engine is a real workhorse and will get you down the road as fact as you need to go. My 1974 318 still runs strong after 40 years of service.Best of luck and maybe I'll see you some day at one of the car shows.

Fender tag says it DID come with green vinyl, but apparently it must have had problems; the car has been repainted at least once.

Sad Update: the vehicle has been wrecked this morning. Struck when someone attempted to pull through a stop sign right as I was going by. No injuries, not physically at least.

Sorry to hear about that. The pictures don't want to load, however, thank God no one was hurt!:(

Sorry to hear of your accident. That 1970 Dodge Coronet 4-door was sweet. It looks like it may be salvageable as the damage seems to be mostly to the door skins.

It's been a while, but she's slowly being fixed...bad timing as far as when it happened, but I've still got er! Hopefully it won't be too much longer.
