Hi all, I’m trying to fit up my sail panels for my ‘71 Road Runner. Am I supposed to put a bend in the panel to make it match the contour of the quarter panel or am I missing something? These are Legendary’s panels.

There’s a pretty big gap here:

Never have installed those. 73/74 Chargers use same sail panel shape, but being one piece plastic.

The two pieces (cardboard and metallic molding) from 71/72 Plymouths was a recent learnt to me. And will be my solution if/when my sail paneles get broken which eventually will. They get/are usually brittle and are made with “unobtanium”.

Those molds gets holding spring clips to catch/keep the cardboard panel in place while gets also the provisions for the screws to the body. So, yes, it should pull in the panel.

All of this old plastic is scary to try and remove. Wish I was smarter and could 3d print some of them. I think that would be a thing

Chad, see my page on when I did the install - I did post some pics.

I think that's the reason for the 2 clips on the inside of the panel and it's why I used Velcro on the backside - to hold that contour.
Thank you! I was using your images as reference. I was thinking the clips or Velcro wouldn't be strong enough to pull the panels in to the contour. I'll give it a try.

@71Beeper Aren’t the moldings designed to bite/catch the cardboard?

Doesn’t the cardboard get inserted or catched somehow INTO the molding ? Some kind of groove or channel?

That’s what I think. Sorry, I never have had those molds in hands… yet. And I hope won’t be needing them (meaning my sail panels are still in one piece)

There’s nothing I can see that actually clips to the sail panel. I agree with 71Beeper (John), the clip that holds the molding to the window opening (and the screw at the bottom) press the sail panel and hold it against the quarter panel. I think the back window molding also helps to hold the other end down.

I recently stripped and painted mine:
