Hey all,
So im in finishing stages on my 68 coronet 500 convertible resto and im thinking about the 383 magnum fender emblems. I'm thinking back about 20 years ago. I had purchased a sixty eight coronet, five hundred coupe and it was an original three eighty three magnum car. I felt sure that that car had had a three eighty three engine emblem somewhere on the fender. So I started scouring their internet looking for pictures, and I can't find any. Now I know they did it before sixty eight, and I know they did it after sixty eight, but my question is, did that year get skipped for the three eighty three magnum fender emblem??? Does anybody out there have an original one that it has a picture of where it actually goes?If they are correct? Thank you for any imput you all might have

Yes I have seen them on a few '68's over the years... BUT not nearly as much as 69 models.

Interesting..... thank you for the pic. That's right about where I thought I remembered it. But i'm gonna review a couple more pictures if anybody's got them and see if that's common. That car in the picture you sent I would assume is a hundred percent original

I edited my comment just as you quoted me. I don't think it was the norm. Even that one shown who really knows since it changed hands 2 times before this guy got it. I think it was common for 69-70 models to get them..

I was thinking it was a tad too high so who knows. It's really weird because I feel almost positive that this one I had twenty years ago had them. But they could have been added too I also had a sixty eight super b that I feel like it had them, but I could be remembering it wrong.

I've never noticed this before.
Interesting.

66 satellites got skipped for the red/white/blue Satellite emblem/bar.
65 has it, then 68-70 has it.

Do 68's get "V-8" emblems if they have 2 barrel engines?

I do not think a 1968 Coronet 500 would have a 383 Magnum sign on the front fender. Magnum refers to the 335 h.p. 383 that was only available in the SuperBee in 1968. The 1968 Coronet 500 had an optional 330 h.p. 383 engine, and I believe cars so equipped received 383 4 Barrel front fender signs. The main differences between the two engines were a hotter camshaft and a windage tray in the Magnum engine. The Magnum engine should also have a HP stamping on the pad below the distributor.
In my reference materials, I could not find any 383-equipped 1968 SuperBee with engine callouts on the front fenders. Only Hemi engined SuperBees came with optional engine callouts. This is in line with Dodge's practice of putting front fender callouts of only optional engines on their cars. Since the 383 Magnum was the standard equipment engine in a SuperBee, it did not receive front fender signs. That pictured '68 'Bee was far from an original survivor.

68-70 Plymouth b bodies with flat hoods (Belvedere, Satellite, Sport Satellite) had the engine size callout on the back of the hood ornament. They never had engine size on fender emblems.

Ahhh! Good info! Makes sense. So if you ordered a 383 4bbl on a 68 coro 500 youd see that emblem. Makes sense. I had a gold survivor super B like 20 years ago 68, and I don't remember it having emblems.
I've been thinking about it, and I just cant remember that, but a 68 coro 500 coupe did have them. But i bet they were 383 4 barrel like you said

If there was an engine call out emblem on the fender of a '68 Coronet 500 or Super Bee, it's not listed in the parts book.

IIRC "383 Magnum" started in 1970.

So.....how about 1969?

I know N96 cars got "383" or "440" but nothing else.

My very first car, circa 1976, was a 1968 Coronet 500. It was a 383, 4spd. car. It had no engine emblems on the fender. Now, obviously I was not the original owner, but I doubt if there were emblems there that were removed prior to my ownership.

Great info guys... i think its pretty clear they didnt put them on there. I can find no pics of it, im unclear in my memory of past coronets, and its not in the parts guides, nobody else recalls them in 68 on those cars so they must not have done that
