1968 Coronet 500 Project

well its a good thing you know how to do it. you have proof that you put out craftsmanship at a very high level.

Thanks, looks like we are not going to make Prescott plus I have no interest in driving through Phoenix this weekend with the temps cranking up with marginal A/C ;)

Damn it.... Oops we did it again.... The wife new car.... Survivor Arizona car found within 10 miles of where the Coronet was discovered.....
Now to figure out how to get a 318 stroker in there since they did not have V8's in '63 and changed the firewall in '64 to accommodate....

The difference here is I plan to DRIVE this one home tomorrow night!

‘63 was 170 or 225 only. The firewall needed to be changed to accept the 273 according to allmopar.com

but the 63/64 gt model had a option of the 273.

Neato!!

Have you considered putting a turbo on the leaning tower of power?:D

More research: 273 was not offered till the early '64 models. The GT was the 225. To put a LA in the '63 you need to depress the firewall to allow the distributor to clear and in doing that you bind up the linkage to the wiper so in '64 they added the depression and repositioned the wiper motor. I will need to find a firewall patch and wiper motor/linkage from a '64 and up. The k member will accept either the /6 or LA in these early years. All I need is the steering cross bar with the deeper drop for the oil pan.

Put a BB in, distributor to the front solves the problem...

As far as I can recall, all of the k members were the same up to or thru 69. I took out a 6 cyl from a 65 Dart, and put in a 318 on the same k member.

Jim, go to this website and read all about putting a SB in the '63. They make swap kits for a lot of configurations and have a lot of info to read thru.

Reading on a bodies some of the swaps they have kits like said above. Anyway bb is the answer lol

Wow that's a nice one and just need some TLC to bring back to her glory. Looking forward to the progress
