I removed the heater-a/c box from my 1968 Dodge Charger. (Dirt, sand and a dead mouse fell out when I removed it off of the firewall.) What steps should I take to restore the box? Are there any instructions available on how it comes apart? Thanks!

Glen Ray radiator can restore the heater core.

FSM will give details of heater core/evaporator removal which requires disassembling the box. Take many detailed pictures of the linkages/springs. Very easy to get them installed wrong. Replacement heater cores do not fit right. Glen Ray is not taking new work. Find a local shop to redo heater core.

Getting the heater box out of the car is the paint point. Once it's out, there's not a whole lot to it, once you have the DMT kit. It's the disconnecting heater hoses, linkage and mounting bolts, some drippy mess that's guaranteed to happen. My heater core and blower motor were both good, but now would be the time to replace them if you're unsure, and going to the trouble of restoring the heater box.

For a console car, you need to unscrew the top plate and turn it sideways, insert key and pull your shifter back and out of the way, to make room to pull out the heater box. Make sure your car is on jack stands or wheels chocked. ;)
