I recently sold my '64 Polara 500 and according to my wife "I couldn't handle an empty spot in the garage". She found this '71 GTX for sale on the internet and said we should go look at it. So we hooked up the trailer and made a 800 mile round trip this weekend to bring it home. It was the former owner's 18 year project that had gotten stalemated when he moved on to a late model Challenger. Rebuilt '69 440, trans and 4.10 8 3/4. New brakes. Paint was done about 5 years ago and needs a final cut and buff. The trunk, passenger compartment and bed of the pickup were full of parts coming home. The hemi going in my '71 Road Runner will have wait while I get this one road ready for next summer. Will try to keep posting pics as we progress.

sweet ride. Are those 14inch rallies? I am restoring my 71 that came with 14s and putting 15s on it. Should fill those wheel wells better and giving me more rubber on the road. Does your car have a fender tag? Good luck with the car

Yes those are 14" Rallies but it also came with a set of new 15x7 and 15x8 rallies complete with caps, rings and 255 & 275 BFG's.

Hi Outlaw. That'll be a great looking car when you're done with it. Congrats, and welcome to the forum!

Lucky I'm going to have to buy mine lol. I see them now in the back of the ram

I finally got a chance to unload the GTX and pickup. The previous owner had been picking up parts for years. There is double and triple of some things. All of this, combined with the extras that I have collected for my Road Runner. I should have about everything I need to get it put together this winter. Here's a pic of the engine compartment and interior- pre clean up.

Looks very nice. You dont have an extra air cleaner do you?

Sweet ride! Where did you pick it up...I thought I saw one for sale just like that a few days ago near Columbus and was trying to convince my cousin to buy it!

Love the body style of the 71-72. Wish you were closer, we would be swappin' parts and stories. CAM00976.jpg

The GTX is in the shop and I started detailing the engine compartment. The engine had been painted when it was rebuilt but there was over spray from the paint job all over the top of it. I did some clean up with lacquer thinner and reshot the top along with the new intake and and the correct brackets and bolts that I dug out of my parts pile.

We went to local swap meet last weekend and found some good stuff. These were probably the coolest:

I also found a set of HD Mopar Performance b-body leaf springs, Competition Engineering subframe connectors and a 4130 chrome moly Alston 10 point e-body roll cage all new. The guy didn't want to haul them home and sold everything to me for $180. The springs and connectors will go in the GTX and I'm pretty sure i can make the hoop and bars of the cage work in my Road Runner. Planning on getting the engine buttoned up with the six barrel this weekend.

Thanks everyone. This weekend I pulled the 6 pak off the Road Runner to put the carbs on the GTX. I will have to live with a single 4 barrel on it until we put the hemi in.

Here was my drive way this morning. I can't believe how much different the Road Runner and GTX look even though they are the same the same body. Kind of like Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde.

I got most of the engine assembled and started polishing the the over spray off the firewall and inner fenders.
