1st Date Movies

Went to see Misery.

Dinner was Burger King.

hey, she had her chance.
Been together almost 34 years . Be married 31 years this Oct

West Side Story, Apr. '63. She was just 14 and I was still 15. Saturday afternoon showing, this was in the Bronx NY, and she had seen it once already. She wanted to see it again. We "went steady" for the next 4 1/2 years and got married. Just passed our 56th anniversary and she still wants to see it when on tv. I think she has a thing for Russ Tamblin aka RIFF.
God bless both of you.

Atco Drive In operated into the 90s....... another thing today's youngsters will never experience

I said- "Equal portions. Nice. I do that all the time".

Our eyes locked.

Then the music started and someone turned on a disco ball.

1st dates at the movies!

Who the heck remembers the movie?
I sure do. Earthquake - in Sensurround!

I was 13 maybe; Sherry had been a neighborhood friend turned first girlfriend growing up.
Then came the world-changing news the family was uprooting and moving hundreds of miles away...
about crushed me, man.
Oh - that movie was part of that whole 70's "disaster movie" trend and the sensurround effect was amazing
in the theatre. Turns out, it was just an oversized sub-woofer setup, but at the time, it was revolutionary.

On our first date, I took Submit to dinner at Legal Seafood and we went to see "Down and Out in Beverly Hills".

First date was to my favorite trout fishing lake with my old Boston Whaler. Tryin to be original.
First movie together was Shakespeare In Love. Coming up on our 22 anniversary.

My wife to be was then a brand spanking new student visa immigrant from Saigon. Our first date - and actual first time of ever talking and seeing each other live - out to a little cafe in Little Saigon here in the LA area. Then I suggested a movie - she was excited to go - what did this idiot pick - “We were Soldiers when we were Young” w/Mel Gibson - if you recall it was about the first major, and one the bloodiest battles of the VN war. About 15 mins in I was shrinking down in my seat wondering what kind of idiot was I. Her father was nine yrs in the war and 2.5 in a concentration camp following it.

She’s never let me forget about that and never hesitates to tell others the story. That was 25 yrs ago - why I don’t know, but an Angel was looking out for me w/her from then on. It’s been pretty much bliss from then on.
Good story actually!
Nothing better then a good Asian woman.

Lisa, 1991-ish, I guess you could call it the 1st date
it wasn't a real movie theater, it was an Equestrian Center Arena
come to think of it, we never went to a real theater...
We had gotten together several times before,
she'd come to my place & watch TV, play video games & just, drink & talk...

We weren't really a couple for a while later, maybe 5-6 months
she was in a bad relationship, husband/guy who beat her,
left her with a crapload of debt etc.
I didn't know all the sorted details till after...
She didn't tell me of fear of I'd go do something to the dude...

My mantra was what was behind you stayed that way, no looking back...

1st time we actually "went out" that wasn't, her at my duplex...
(2nd home/investment I'd come up to for weekends of Golf or to relax,
before I moved there permanently in 1997
...)

At the Equestrian Center...
It had a makeshift screen like a big sheet & a projector,
we sat in the bleachers (a long way from the screen & sound)
& had a few drinks/talked laughed with a few other people...
It was more a party with a bunch of Rodeo ladies,
that had a movie playing in the background & not many men there...
It was like 4 ladies to ever guy, we went to a show in the Equestrian Center
she was competing at, across the street/hwy from where I lived in Ranch Murieta...
They were playing Rocky II (?), with Mr. T
(My 1st long-term relationship, 10 years prior, also started with Rocky II also)
I saw it a bunch of times, didn't watch much, we were socializing & laughing,
getting drunk...
Later dancing to country music over the crappy loudspeakers in the arena...

We knew each other already, she was bartending at the club I belonged to...
I had talked with her at the bar a bunch of times
& met with her several times prior...
I had an old dog (Lab) die, I was sort of down, she knew it
& she showed up at my place & had a lil' 7 week old chocolate lab puppy,
she bought me out of her tips, we were really just friends 1st...
That made my day/decade, made me a lot happier...

I used to go watch her rodeo or rein or cutting horses, barrel races/activities
she'd come & watch me drag-race, that sort of was our dates
it was usually socializing with friends, BBQ-ing & drinking with friends
we were rarely alone, she had a kid (8y/old boy) already too, when we met
I'd drag him along a lot, it was fun...

We had a lot of the same likes, golf 4x4s/Jeeps horses cars,
she had a nice 89 Turbo Supra, she cherished that thing...
Relationship 'it just worked', we clicked connected well
we enjoyed spending time together, we didn't really need outside stimulations...

anyway...

First date, drive in, my van. What movie........................

In the early 80's, there was an X-rated drive-in down in RI and one night, me and a few of my buddies went there. A big Olds pulled up next to us and the only person in there was the driver. After a few minutes, he got out, looked around, opened his trunk and out pops his girlfriend. It's bad enough taking your date to an X-rated drive in, but you're so cheap that you put her in the trunk to avoid paying a few bucks?!?!?!?

Not on dates - but that was a very common practice back in the day where I’m from. One or two would pay w/2 or 3 in the trunk. Less about $$ and more the fun of getting away with stuff. The old downtown Mpls *** theaters - we’d hang by the back door in the alley and when someone emerged 4 or 5 of us would slip in…. Yeah back in the good old days…..
