Hey guys...new to Mopars and curious to what modifications you have made to your 273 engines? What kind of horsepower can you expect to get from it? Is there a way to do dual exhaust?
A 273 is a small bore 318 really, so a good engine overall. There is an intake bolt hole angle difference on some early vs. late but I don't recall the year cutoff. This would make adapting later intakes more difficult, but it's also possible someone has a way around that by now.
I never had a running 273 but have had a 318 or two so I can speak about some really basic cheap mods. Dual exhaust can be put on anything if you pay the muffler shop enough! Assuming you can put a later intake on the 273 I'd look for a 360 TQ setup. Even with the port mismatch it will run well and they are nearly free compared to the Edelbrock. Or you can put on a small square bore 4 BBL, and by small I mean 500 CFM max. A cam change will net the biggest improvement if you don't over cam. So I guess you need to decide how far you want to go. 300 HP shouldn't be too hard to get using bolt on parts.
