I have a 1970 Charger with factory power steering. The car now has a 440 in it with an unknown brand of headers. I’m building a new 440 and want to replace the headers also. With the current header setup, I cannot remove the stock starter without removing the header at the same time. Also cannot remove the header without removing the starter, they both have to be removed at the same time if one of them has to come out. I don’t mind spending 1000.00$ for Doug’s Headers (or any other recommended brand) as long as I can remove my starter without removing the header. Or do I just have to have a mini starter for this to happen? My question is does anyone have any recommendations on which header to buy that will allow starter removal without removing the header. I like stainless or ceramic if the coating will last a long time. Thankyou.

TTI, IMHO, make the best headers bar none. However, having used TTI, Hooker, and Dougs, all require unbolting the starter. You can use a mini starter, but even then it has to be at least unbolted... At least in my experience, but I don't have a 70 Charger...but I do have a 72 with TTI. But I will say in all honesty I haven't tried.

I have never had a Mopar with headers that you can remove the starter without at least loosening and removing most if not all of the bolts to be able to move the header far enough away. Except on my 2nd Gen Hemi without torsion bars and a tubular K frame using coil overs. The starter and headers can come right off without having to lift or remove the engine.

First, if you have a reliable starter, you install it and don't have any reason to remove it for years.
Same goes with headers. A quality set with good gaskets stays in place and does not leak.
Last month I started a roller cam swap in my 440/495. Part of the work involved removing the heads to change valve springs and to clean stuff up. I had to unbolt the headers from the heads to do this, the left side is still in the chassis but bolted to nothing. I did not need to touch the starter.
The mini starter lacks the charm of the original design but they are smaller, more powerful and last longer than the originals.
I did install a starter with the header already bolted to the head in a 360 in my 67 Dart but every big block I've had with headers has had to at least unbolt the starter and clock it around to get the header out.
