I put a 318 LA in my 65 Belvedere Wagon because I found the only two things I could find for the Poly was gas and oil. This was a new build by someone else and had a radical cam and had been ran on a test stand. I tamed the cam down with a mild comp cam and put it back together, fired it up and it sounded like solid lifters or exhaust leak. Pulled a valve cover and a pushrod was thru a stock pressed rocker. So ordered new adjustable rockers from Mancini which would not fit on the shaft . . . so new shafts also. Now there seems, to me, to much play between the rockers so they would tend to slide sideways. The stock rockers were much tighter. Is this normal, a good half inch between the arm. Do I need shims? First small block mopar I've worked on.

I would expect there to have been shims/spacers to be between each cylinder, example: Mopars are like Small Block Chevy.
The valves go ...
Cyl 1 Exh/Int
Cyl 3 Int/Exh
Cyl 5 Exh/Int
Cyl 7 Int/Exh.
In between each cylinder there is enough space for slop to occur. In the stock stamped setup, the holddown clamps helped align the rocker arms. In the aftermarket adjustables, the rockers should not touch the holddowns at all.

Since you're new to this stuff !!
1st off I'd suggest to take the discussion to the
general discussion forum open a thread there,
it gets the most viewers
or even the general Mopar tech discussions
or another of the appropriate forum sections on
here that deal with specific type tech stuff...
This is only the welcome wagon,
it's not really intended as a Q&A tech section,
more for intros, getting to know each other, sharing a few photos etc....

what brand & style of Adj. Rockers & shafts etc. ?
There's many to choose from...

----------------------------------------------------

A friendly suggestion;
More information the better, especially
when dealing with issues like these, the more the better,
so we can give you good information back &
not have to do the back & forth Q&A,

Example;
who makes them ? what they are used on ?
is it a roller style, individually adj. ?
what specific brands/makes a big difference sometimes ?
where did you buy them ? {we know Mancini}
what style of push rods cup & ball ?,
with the cup as the adjuster or is the cup on the pushrod ?
what is the problems ? how much space/slop, how much too loose ?
your little bit loose or a lot loose & my little loose, or tight etc.,
may be completely different, among many more issues...

Detailed Photos help a ton too...

More good detailed info, the better

-----------------------------------------------------------

Some adj. rocker require spacers some shims etc.
& different style hold downs too
It really depends on the specific brand/style,
sometimes even thickness of rocker,
on what you need to do or check/change...

suggestion;
2nd thing I'd do is;
I'd contact, "call Mancini Racing" & tell them what you're
dealing with, they are good people & usually very willing
to help/advise you, on what you need or should have bought
to work with these specific style rockers...

Good luck & Happy Moparing
