383 ID help needed. 383 HP? 383-S?

Nore did the tin fit a none hp cleaner. The point is there were really no parts in the engine its self that would make a 383-4 an hp or not an hp.

The cam was different, the valve springs were different, the carb was different and the HP, usually, had a windage tray. Yes, there were internal differences. How else would you know what was internal if you didn't have an external marking, say an HP stamp?

You beat me to it....Also HP manifolds were standard.....

No such thing as HP manifolds. There are 2 bbl and 4bbl manifolds but there is no difference between the 330 and 335 horse manifolds.
I don't deal with non HP cars...lol.....or 383's...good info though...thx

There are non HP cars? ;)

Btw. Thanks for the referral on the Coronet RT broadcast sheet. I had a nice conversation with the owner yesterday.

Would you mind posting those engine specs?
The 68 Plymouth manual has no seperation for HP 383s just 2 or 4 barrel.

Thanks guys for all the info. I’m not concerned about the actual 5 hp, I’m more curious to see if there is anything “special” about his car other than it’s a 1-owner car with a 383. It had a few things that didn’t add up, and was just trying to figure it out, and learn more about it.

I get exactly what your stating.....I am a true OE guy myself.....

The car is special...low mileage, all original sheetmetal, original drivetrain and interior......and 1 owner.....

Get your hands on the build sheet and replace the missing parts correctly....you are miles above the rest...

Yeah...the 68 FSMs and parts book have some omissions.

Here's the cam specs from the 69 Dodge FSM. The 383/440 HP cam had the 268 duration.

The same PNs apply for 1968.

The 2843 564 cam is the 335 horse cam. The 190 cam is for 383-2, 383-4 330 horse and 440-4 350 horse (C body)

So did the 383 - 440 hp use the same cam?
We have been repeatedly preached to the fact RB cams do not work in BB blocks.

The bottom line is you have a one owner numbers matching charger. That in itself is a lucky place to be. That 330 HP four barrel engine is still a great runner, and has the same compression ratio as the 335 HP engine. For fun check your gear ratio, my 69' had the 330 HP and 2:76 rear gears. Not the 3:23 the 335 HP came with in the Bees and Roadrunners.
