71RR with lumpy cam 383, headers. summit duals, reverse manual valve body 727, B&M shifter,
On top is new Edelbrock carb on a older Wieland single plan manifold. kinda air gap style.
The rear is 8 3/4 open 2.76 gears.

Lots of top end. Thinking of a used dual plane. Not for strip. street only.

Any good used intakes to consider?

Just feeling it out for now.

You need to match your intake choice to the cam. By that I mean you need to know what the advertised power band is, then get an intake that (basically) matches that. Otherwise you will have a motor with a very limited power band.

That out of the way, I like a DP4B or an M1 (which is nothing but a newer version of a DP4B with a choke accommodation)

All big block intakes are a natural air gap design, even stock ones. The name of the intake is on the intake somewhere or at least the part number.

With that rear end, I would look to a dual plane intake for sure.
Cam specs are a key in the combo. And without knowing that, I would have to vote for the Performer.

Can't go wrong with an Eddy Performer RPM, if it fits under the hood (it didn't on mine).

Hey, Sledge Cool it with the boom booms, Gouladi fan from the 60's. Tim Conway (McHale's Navy and Carol Burnett show) was a local TV type and did some skits with Erie Anderson back in time. Before the voice of Love Boat and other network stuff.
Love your avitar. I have 2 videos of very old gouladi skits.
Good stuff.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I third that opinion, the performer RPM is a great intake. I'd also look into getting 3:23 gears if at all possible, unless you do allot of interstate driving. But thats just me.

First, you need more gear. Try 3.23 or 3.55.

Performer RPM won't fit under the hood on a 71 RR.

Here's how to find out if it will fit. Take some aluminum foil, wad it up in to a loose ball, and least 2 1/2" in size. Place it on your air cleaner. Close hood. Open hood. Measure to see how thick the wad of aluminum is. If it's at least 2" thick, the RPM will fit.

The Performer RPM intake is just under 2" taller than the stock intake for a BB.

Don't forget, there's always a drop base air cleaner that will help for clearance if non stock appearance is OK.

I have a Weiand single plane similar to the G series in looks. It was on the car and not in my home garage at the moment. If fits just fine with a drop base. I bet the RPM will fit with my drop base also. I will check and make sure before I buy any intake.
I have put 3.55 suregrip on top of my wish list for now.

Seriously, take the 3.55's off the wish list and install them in the car. It will make more difference than the intake at this point. You may also have a cam/compression ratio mismatch.
