I have a 69 bee with a blown 70 motor. I want to put in the e383 hp that is suppose to be in there. If I am shopping for just the block, what is the difference between a 383 block and a 383hp block? I am talking about just the block itself, not the goodies that are in it or on it.

GTX MATT is right on, the 2bbl had 9.2:1 pistons, the HP had 10.0 No other difference.

...and valve springs, and carb and windage tray.

There is no difference in the block.

And 5 hp!

I just looked at a factory book my dad has and I can only see a difference in cam, nothing else.

Supposedly the only difference between the two is the HP had the HP exhaust manifolds, different cam, and windage tray in the oil pan. All which gave you an extra 5 hp.

Exhaust manifolds are the same between HP and non HP cars.

according to that, there are two different manifolds for right and left sides with 4 bbl carbs. Difference seems to be B2,L2 and and R2,W2.

as 69coronetrt says,
The 2bbl had one set of manifolds, and the 330 horse version, as well as the 335 hp version used the same exhaust manifolds. Many people are confused that there were three 383 engine configurations in 68-69, there was no HP stamp on the 330 horse engine, but was still 10.:1 compression, and had many of the HP parts. HP stamped engines was Roadrunner and superbee 383 cars. Charger and Sport Satellite was not. They still had an H engine code in the VIN, but it was all about marketing the Roadrunner and Superbee as something different.
B2 and L2 refer to the 383 four Barrel in the A body cars. That is a totally different exhaust manifold.

There are three sets of numbers for right and left manifolds. Take the right for example..... All 383 engiens. right 2 bbl part 2532459, right w/ 4 bbl ex. B2,L2 part number 2806898, Right B2,L2 part number 2863897.

Very true, 383 two Barrel, ,383 four BBL B body, 383 four BBL A Body.(68-69) To mess it up, the 67' A body 383 driver side was another number, as well as the C body driver side.
The part number for 2863897 (RH A body 383) has a casting number of 2863900 383hp
The part number for 2806898 (RH B -c body 67-69)also has a casting number 2863900. 383-440hp

Wonder why it would have the same casting number yet two different part numbers for essentially the same part.

I stand to correct myself, the B-C body passenger casting number is 2806900, not 2863900, which is the A body. The main thing is, B and C body 383 four barrel cars used the same Passenger manifold as the 440hp, the B body driver is the same, C body is different. The A body manifolds stand alone. sorry for the mistype,

as 69coronetrt says,
HP stamped engines was Roadrunner and superbee 383 cars. Charger and Sport Satellite was not.

The 335 HP application changed during the three years.
68 was RR and SB only, either trans & without A/C.
69 was any B body with four speed w/o A/C, SB and RR either trans w/o A/C
70 I don't have that one down as well the other two but there is an HP with A/C application in '70

no problem. so then I was right in my thinking that my 69 charger has the 383 HP like I have been saying since it has the factory 4 spd.

The point is there are no "HP" and "non HP" 4bbl manifolds.

Ok, I just remember that there were the HP ones that seemed to go up and over and down and then another set that were pretty much straight across and down similar to the pass side HP manifold but instead of being arched at the top, was more straight across like a log. Could have been that I was thinking of the 2 bbl manifolds vs. the HP ones and that the car I saw had someone swap out the intake and carb to a 4 bbl.
