Another question, the two engines existed. What is the code for the 330hp, which was a distinct engine, and did E63 refer to both? One source says E65 was superbee/roadrunner, and another says E65 is the 300hp four barrel made in 71'.
referring to 69 only.....
E63 and H in the VIN only tells you the car had a 383-4bbl. Remember there was the A body 383, the 330 horse B body, the 335 horse B body and the 330 horse C body assembly plus combinations of transmissions and with or without A/C. All were different assemblies with different horsepower ratings but all code E63 and H in the VIN.
sources indicating the H in the VIN = HP engine are incorrect as there are several versions of the 68-70 383 that are not considered HP.
Engine assembly numbers for '69:
A body 383 four speed 895
A body 383 automatic 896
B body 330 horse four speed with A/C- All B bodies 897
B body 330 horse automatic with A/C- All B bodies 899
B body 330 Horse automatic without A/C - All B bodies except Super Bee and Road Runner 900
B body 335 horse four speed without A/C - All B bodies. 925
B body 335 horse automatic without A/C - Super Bee and Road Runner 926
The HP with automatic and no A/C was exclusive to the SB/RR; the four speed was not.
C bodies- don't know yet.
1970 assembly numbers were different.
RE: 1971. With the introduction of the 360 into the line up, the 383-4bbl got bumped up from code E63 to E65.
