#40 Pete Hamilton Superbird build

Truly Brilliant work indeed!

My favourite Mopar is the 71 Petty Plymouth.
I remember seeing a nice original one at the Van Nuys Spring Fling some ten years ago.

Several ways to go with the 426 thing for the later wedge engine.

Just get a 413 block, 'cheap as chips' and bore it plus 60.

Sleeve down a 440 block probably around $600/$700.

Or de-stroke a 440 crank with 2.200 Chevy rod...
4.320 bore x 3.640 throw is 426ci
4.350 bore x 3.585 throw is 426ci also

Whatever way you go, no one is gonna know lol...

Even Tricky Dicky likes it too lol!

Blasted the inner roof and epoxy coated it. I need to get some color on it and the roll bar before I can weld body on chassis.

Cool , looking good!!!! What did you use to blast it with???? I've tried all kinds of equipment myself including a Bad boy blaster unit, abrasives, soda, etc, etc!!!! I hung Harbor Freight tarps all around the car but still made a mess of the garage , especially with the soda.......everything in sight was white!!!!! Then I tried a pressure washer wet blaster setup out in the driveway. That worked pretty well but my wife didn't like the coal slag all over the place.....including her plants!!!!! I've been toying with the idea of a vacuum blaster but some people say they're really slow!!!!! Any\all feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks,Rick

Got some color on the inner roof and cage. Now we can start mounting body tomorrow.

I did the pressure washer wet blaster setup with Military cargo covers on car. Made a huge mess but it's done.

Body has landed. Now need to do lots of sheet metal work.

That fits great....after a lot of work.
I got lucky with this chassis. The A pillars fit perfect with the cage. Also the top of the rear wheel tub being flat worked perfect with the rear package tray. Being a Monte Carlo Nascar I think it really wanted to be a Superbird.

Now that body is some what mounted I can start with rust repair. Got everything mocked up today. Tomorrow I will weld it up.

Started mocking up the front end and didn't like how the Nascar frame came out below the nose. We cut it off and added some 2x2 box tubing and redirected it into the nose one.

Fantastic project. Really looking forward to seeing the end result.

Some parts came in so I got driver side rocker and door hinge pillar in. Also started to make fender mounts.

Got the headlight buckets in and working. Been patching up my junk fenders and starting to hang rear quarters.

Dude,
I love what you are doing here!! Looking forward to seeing the final product, but you have me hooked for now. Will it see much/any normal road usage or just fun days at the track?

Plan on daily driving it. I'm putting seats in the rear for the kids.

Started to make the cowl induction for the Nascar air cleaner.
