440 ID Plate Info

Hey guys...new to the group...wanted to shoot out a quick hello and was hoping to get some info on engine I'm looking at purchasing. I've attached the ID plate photo. Thanks in advance for your help!

If I counted right, '72 440 "X" indicates 0.010" Undersize rod or mains (check crank for which, one or all). Date code May, 11 (5 11)

I think G is for 1971?

Thanks guys! I just got this from the seller as well. I havent seen the engine in person yet, so trying to gather as much info as possible from him before I make the trip. Looks like a casting date in 1970. Why would the stamped "G" indicate 1971? Any idea whats with the upside down "A"? Sorry if these questions are on the stupid side...Im still green when it comes to this stuff. Thanks again!

Blocks are cast in advance, 1971 cars Build started In 8-1970. So you can have a 2-1970 block be original to a 1971 car, G 440.

your block was cast 7-1970 and built in 5-1971

1965 is A and it follows that. G is 1971, there is no doubt. It just is.
