about 2 months ago # 3 spark plug loosened up and fell out a knocking noise accured did a compression check on #'s 1- 158 3 152-5- 150 7 150 took push rods / lifters all looked good took head off and found # 3 piston has pit marks on top pitting marks pulled piston and saw scratches on the skirting bought a new piston and lightly honed the cylinder put it all back together and knocking is STILL there ??

Wrist pin, piston slapping or lower end..?

Bring it up to 2 grand and gently go up and down with rpm.. should hear the knocking come and go with load/no load.
If it's a bearing. :(

First thing to check is converter bolts.

Nothing you have said would suggest to me it was a piston problem. And I assume the bearing is good on that rod.

The timing of events could be a coincidence

there is a 4 speed behind the 440 motor

this is the piston that was in the motor before i replaced with a new one, look at the skirting and spark plug that came loose and fell out

Is the plug missing the electrode and insulator? If so, do you know where they went?

How did the combustion chamber look?

into the cylinder that is why the top of the piston is pitted up

Pull the plug wire does it change?

That's a KB piston?
Rings appear ok?
The skirt wear might not have come from the plug fragments...
Check the old rings for sign of butting..

going to pull the head off again and drop the pan for now and pull the piston out again and check everything out again and it's a icon piston made by kb

Skirts can get shitty from cams going bad too...
