440 source great place

Chinesium is all I got to say about that, I'll take Eddie anyday.

Here we go...

Sorry, just prefer to not feed the monster (tech steeling, trade agreement bashing, communist, trash building, anti American, thieves) and support our own. O.K I'll keep to myself now.

Yup....I agree. Some of their stuff is good and some isn't. Sucks when you get the bottom of the line China crap.

Lmao, yep here we go...

You just have to be very selective on what you buy, who would have known that a bronze distrb. gear I got from them would have stripped? I know I have a few of their parts and out of all of them the only thing I thought was cheap was the $99 distributor which is sitting on my 383 now, and the flat valley pan which just leaked all the time no matter how I sealed it.

Water pump and housing still working, heads still working for china cast junk. lol pulleys still working, bunch of other small stuff. Just be selective. and do your homework! Don't be like me and learn the hard way 2-3 times before getting it right.

I also see they moved to Nevada, and offer free shipping on items $99 and up. looks like a good move. I think their main thing is stroker kits and all the knowledge base they have about them. I didn't get my 493 kit there but didn't even see it till after.

Hey, we all have a budgets to live with and prices make a difference, I have used three sets and have been lucky I guess, cause all of mine have worked flawlessly and I make the same offer, I do when ever these threads come up.

All the eddy lovers out there, I will happily run a pair on my Mopar, if you want to buy me a set, I even will do a comparison and admit you are right

Mikey

I like their timing chain sets, and they are American made. They also have good prices on ARP bolts, piston rings and bearings, all USA made. I know the pistons I received in the stroker kits I bought were Keith Black ICON pistons.
I would think they would sell more USA parts if they could make money selling them?

stealth heads are great heads too.
there is an engine builder over here and he will not touch eddies anymore he said there is too many casting flaws so for mopars he recommends stealth heads only.

I use their 4.15 stroker kit in my 440 for 493 cubes. I used the D-dish pistons for 10.6 comp with my Indy EZ heads. But its the Source bottom end (crank , pistons , rods and bearings) and its been holding up fine. I built the eng in 2011 and had it in the car running since June 2011 with many street miles and some passes down the track. The parts I checked were all within specs that I had no problem using everything in the stroker kit. Bottom end set up fine and has been running great. I also know a few guys who use their Stealth heads and they are all still running fine. Brandon who runs 440Source is a nice guy and was easy to deal with. We all have budgets and have to work within them. I do all my own eng work other then I cant port heads anymore with my bad back and I have no issue with their parts I used. Ron

AT ANY RATE, I liked the information they had, better than most, and talked to them about there CHINESE CRAP B BODY SITE SAID YOU SELL. They had no problem returning Chinese Crap With full refund being they have none!
I liked the fact they Guide you through the Steps for a Build if knowlage is problem.
I mite add that taking your own AMERICAN MADE PARTS, you can machine to there Specs they offer on site.
$700.00 plus for a Crank is pricey, but I do my own locally as a Machinist/ yet they have a vast understanding of MOPAR over me..
Steel in the late 60's and up to 75 came from China and was used ford/Mopar bodies, engines, and Shipped to Ford rouge plnt/ sold to Chrylers. "SLAG".
I RETIRED FROM CHRYLERS as a machinist/concept car builder 1964-1996. As a Lathe Operator I found my share of SLAG trust me....

Probably got a tax break by moving there....and Summit also offers free shipping on orders of 99 and higher....

Worked in a steel mill from 73 through 78 and started working in a machine shop in 79. Japan flooded our steel market with subsidized finished steel products but forgings from them machined very nicely. I quit ARMCO because of the flooding and got tired of getting laid off plus the writing on the wall was getting easier to read.

Yup,
And on my 440 built "Max Wedge" Clone engine, pictured above you will see a un-painted water pump.
WHY? Because Good Ol' Ma Mopar's pump, American made, leaked right out of the box.

What is on there now?
A Chineese made pump. Why? Cuz it does not leak.

So, it works both ways Gentlemen....
Both ways....

1971-72 japan came in, and bam! It all changed, and today we all have jap-chin in the homes-cars-everything.... Most cars today are electronic all from japan.. Most honorble american???car.

I just picked up a top end from 440 and there is no more casting flash than my last set of eddies. If you're not spending the money on CNC'd heads, it's to be expected.

Considering 90% of the things in anyone's house is not produced in the country you live in, there isn't much point in getting worked up about it.

I have 440 source stealth heads on my 440 source 505" stroker 440 (0.030" over, 4.25" stroke crank.) The casting of the heads was very nice, but I did change out the springs and retainers to match my cam, and had a multi-angle valve job done on them after some mild port cleanup. I went with these heads because I wanted the near stock look of the heads. The crank was good, but the hole for the manual transmission bushing was not reamed to the correct size, but was easy to fix. I did have one connecting rod lower cap where the bearing notch was a machined slightly out of spec, and placed the bearing slightly too close to the crank chamfer resulting in too tight of rod side clearance. It was very slight, and champhering the bearing slightly fixed the problem.

My other 440 source stroker engine (4.15" stroke, 4.375" bore in 400 block), went together with no problems, but was used with an automatic trans, so did not check if a manual bushing would fit? No problem with the rods. I used a different machine shop on this build and they "balanced" the crank. It always felt unbalanced, so when I had the engine apart after breaking the rocker stand off me Edelbrock victor cylinder heads, I took it to my usually machine shop and they verified the first shop made a mistake "balancing" the engine, and they had to drill out the weight they added.
This was the first 440 Source stroker, the 505" 440 above was my second, and I verified it was correctly balanced from 440 source which is why i suspected this balance job was messed up, and it would have been fine as it arrived from 440 source.

Now my Edelbrock Victor MaxWedge heads have been a PITA since I got them. Makes me want to check out the ProComp heads to see if they might be better?
