Some people are just looking for history, or nostalgia. The GNX had 360 Ft. lb. not 310; the regular 1987 GN produced 355 Ft. lb. that year. And people can still buy new Mustangs if that's all they want, but with under 600 GNXs built 35 years ago, they're a bit scarcer and probably the only mid 13 second family car built in the 80s. There are cheaper and faster cars than a hemi-cuda too, but some people just know what they want.

Yeah but... they made more Buick Regal coupes in almost any one of those model years that Chrysler built E body Barracudas in 5 model years.10 times as many all together. My point was the body that the GNX is built on is anything but rare or unique. Like I said, an easy car to clone.

That's like saying a demon is just a 6 cyl challenger with a blower on it. Easy to clone because the fenders and body are similar . LOL

The madness at BAT is completely out of control. $33,500.00 for this?

I don't get it. A 20 year old Nissan econobox selling for more than double what it sold for new? If someone is going to spend that kind of dough on a Jap car daily driver, why not just get a new Honda Civic that has a warranty? As far as insurance value goes, if you got into an accident, the car is probably only worth a few grand at best.

File under; more money than brains.
What does this make a restored, numbers matching '68 Charger R/T worth?

State of insanity
When manufactured it was a plain-jane daily driver econobox. Evidently, it was not driven as its intended purpose. Now, it can be. Nothing more.

I said earlier, I wouldn’t build it with a stock drivetrain. The metric TH200R4 started life as the 4 cylinder 90HP Chevette transmission. The rear in those Buick’s is barely able to sustain the stock HP. The flares and fender vents are on eBay. The emblems are available, as is the spoiler. The HP difference is what, about 200 from a stock Regal to the GNX. Isn’t it more like 500 from a V6 Challenger to a Demon. Btw... that’s another car that almost never gets driven. I’ve seen several Demons on BAT with less than 100 miles.

I missed the GNX part. The 10 bolt rear is fine if you're keeping it stock. Here's some of the biggest differences between the GN and GNX.
GNX Difference....

Turbo, Coated IC Plumbing, IC (same as a 89' TTA), Turbo heat shield, Trans Hydraulics, ext trans cooler, Louvers through the fenders, fender flares, Chip, Rear suspension and rear end cover, Gauge cluster, Badging (grille, trunk and one dash, black honeycomb wheels, Braces welded across the rear seat frame (FBI cars had this also), bushings above rear frame hump to body, exhaust.

I should have said Hot Rod instead of clone. :D An actual clone would cost more, and then only have 275HP. I meant the flares, vents, spoilers, and emblems. Everything else would be upgraded. I’m actually surprised you don’t see many if any done. I can’t remember the last time I saw a Barracuda convertible that wasn’t cloned into a Hemi or six barrel.

The reason why I say this is good luck finding parts for it. Finding parts is getting to be struggle for cars of this era especially when talking in regards to electronics.

Funny you say that, and it always dawns on me when I see these time capsules.... It could easily have been a lemon from day one, spent all it's time getting warrantee repairs at the dealer, and the owner said heck with it, parked it and went and bought something else to drive. I had a total piece of crap Frod van when they came out with the new body (92), endless warrantee issues.....no one ever suggested they'd buy it back from me lol.

There are certainly lots of v8 gn looking cars out there for people that like clowny things. Kudos to them.
But there are 547 gnxs for people with money and taste. Pass the Grey poupon. :drinks:

Looks to me that most of them are passed around... owner to owner with not much if any driving. Yeah, I’ m not rich. But all my cars are driven.

When I was looking at Grand Nationals back in 2004-2005ish most were already used up. It was hard finding one that wasn't modded or ate up with miles. The other problem with GNs, GNXs, and other G-Bodies as well is there is a running question/joke regarding these cars. That question is goes like so, when was has this car been stolen or is it theft proof?
